Let's See Your "Supplements of Choice"

With more brands than we will ever be able to try, supplements are plentiful to say the least! Of course there is tons of "fluff" out there. These days I stock to protein, vitamin and mineral supplements with an occasional test Booster (mid 40s ya know). I've been a Gym rat for 2 decades!
So Which do you guys tend to buy or prefer?

I've been on BSN and ON protein for quite sometime now. With bars, I tend to switch up brands to mix it up. eBay recently had a superb deal on some of my favorite:
Oh Yeah - Victory bars. They taste great compared to most, use no synthetic sweetners, and have a nice soft consistency. No microwave needed lol! :D

In case I've missed it, let's also post up "great deals" we all come across. :)

Good thread idea

For me...none. Absolutely nothing

Huge waste of money and completely unnecessary...

Everything can be achieved through proper nutrition, I just don't understand the need to supplement and face long term effects (and trust me, there are some...)

I agree with ya Squishy to some extent...

Protein shakes and bars are a protein rich low carb fast and easy addition to my diet as meals and snacks and have been for many years. All the other BS pills... :thumbdown

TXSTYLE 03-04-2015 05:55 PM

FYI... The Bars are still available if interested at a really good price. Those of you who like Quest Bars may want to give these a try.

And no, I have zero affiliation with the seller. Just spreading the love. :)

I take all this crap during a day.
Protein shake for breakfast with creatine.
Builder bar late in the day.
Pre workout.
GYM

Supps are very subjectively rated and hated, but I like them. Of course, they are not always the best for the body, but neither is Coca Cola ;) and I drink that too!

Again, here is a particular supp that has hundreds of brands and claims. But I can tell you from experience that there are 2 in particular that I have tried and worked based on actual blood testing I've done:

http://i.imgur.com/sNldL3e.jpg

There are a few key ingredients that are widely known and proven to elevate Test levels:

D-Aspartic Acid which is the key ingredient of the MuscleTec

The Isa-Test goes a different route utilizing a plethora of herbal ingredients that raise libido and lower estrogen level. It definitely increases energy without making you jittery. I find these 2 in combination are probably the most effective T-Booster available short of actual gear.

Should you or anyone decide to try these, PLEASE use as directed! Don't try the 'more must be better' route on strong supps like these.

To round out my complete list of supplements:

Probiotics - overall gut healing and digestion and detox
Garlic Oil tabs
Krill Oil & Flaxseed Oil
GPLC
L-Carnitine
Super Green Multivitamin
Liver-Aid

Optimum nutrition 100% whey protein
Russian bear weight gainer
Make my own preworkout with bulk powders
Also make post workout drink the same way with bulk powders. All the powders are from bulksupplements.com can also get them from Amazon. Way cheaper buying bulk powders and last a lot longer.

Ultimateone 03-04-2015 08:00 PM

When I was 100% powerlifting, 100% whey protein and thats it.

UncleWede 03-05-2015 09:50 AM

I got the Anotest recently from Muscletech as a Groupon for less than $20, blue raspberry. I actually look forward to it each morning, it tastes pretty good. Can't say that it's having any noticeable affect yet other than I can stay awake until 10:30 now without a nap.

Post workout I give myself the "treat" of a chocolate Musclemilk light. Costco sells that shit by the case of 24 for about $20. I much prefer the twist off top vs the straw, but haven't been able to tell which is in the box until I get it home and open it.

Every now and then I make myself and/or my son a shake with raw egg and !00% whey protein if we have to get to an early one of his games. Fills me up, and doesn't whey (see what I did there?) him down for the game.

UncleWede 03-05-2015 09:52 AM

Out of a jar I take l-lysine, but that's just for the cold sores. . .

IF I feel a cold coming on, start in chewing the vit. C at 5-10 grams a day, along with a tincture of Echinacea, Goldenseal, and Yin Chao. I take that one mostly for the alcohol content.

I use Syntha-6 protein post workout and as a meal replacement once in a while if I don't have time to eat. I also use BCAAs during my workouts instead of plain water (I average ~1-1.5 gallons a day anyways). Pretty basic stuff really.

I've tried using creatine monohydrate before but I'm not consistent enough with it in my off days to keep the saturation levels high enough to see any real benefits from it so I stopped using it.

D_o_S 03-14-2015 04:31 PM

I've tried:

Nutrend BCAA - taste good, 40ml before workout, 40ml after
Amix BCAA - still left to taste
Amix CarboJet Professional Vanilla flavour - tastes horrible! After one serving, I'm done with it...
MuscleTech Anabolic Halo Chocolate - tastes wonderful. Love the fact that it contains everything you need + MINERALS, so you don't get cramps while exercising (although they say drink after exercise, I drink it while)

Other then that, I have some generic Whey I supplement once, twice daily.

To those who say you don't need supplements - show me a normal diet that gets you 150g of protein a day... I cannot make that realistically, so I supplement with 30g of whey...

You can't. Without being a fat fuk. The sheer number of calories required to get that kind of protein like meat, is far from practical! Whey protein is, has and will be the choice of athletes or anyone looking for high protein and lower calorie intake.

UncleWede 03-16-2015 09:46 AM

So is tofu stopping me from getting stronger? I tend to use it as a protein source for my lunches 3-5 days a week. I started with the above Anotest because I thought something was missing in the testosterone area, and now I'm thinking I need some other protein source for lunch.

Stage1 03-19-2015 09:26 AM

I drink Arbonne chocolate protein (vegan protein) in the AM and PM. Multi vitamin and green tea pill with am shake. Xtend during workout. Green tea and fish oil with PM shake

ON Whey Protein and have had good luck with ISA-Test, but effect seems to have decreased.

Trying Ubervita Ubertest to mix up the T supp route. Will see.

I was on ON Whey protein for 2 year'ish. I hit the gym consistently and only wanted the extra protein to help with muscle gains. In all honestly, it didn't do much for me. Also, i am always weary about the ill-effects of dairy bi-products, never a big fan.

Made the switch around year and a half ago to Sun Warriors Protein which is basically as vegan and organic as it gets. Tastes HORRIBLE. mixes like putty and clumbs. Eventually got used to it and didnt mind it at all. But like Whey, didn't really help much, so i dropped off protein all together around half a year ago.

I used to also take Pre-workout, but have been off that as well as i find that it also doesnt help much.

The only thing i still use is creatine. Seems to work a tiny bit, can't really feel much difference, when i am off it or not.

I have been doing Arbonne protein now for about 8 months. Its a complete protein, pea based, and the taste is actually pretty good. I guess I am a little bias since my gf works for them, but I have seen much better results with it vs when I used to use whey.

UncleWede 03-25-2015 10:59 AM

So recommend me something to look at for "the next day" I did shoulders last night, this morning I am starting to feel the tightness but can't be all crunched up when I'm supposed to be working on computers.

Sounds a lot like me. I usually get my supplements from Total Nutrition here in Austin, but I always keep some BSN and ON around the house in the form of Protein and BCAA powder.

I like to add the BCAA powder to my pre-workout. Either 1MR or Celucor C4.
