Come live in southern Kansas City on the Kansas side. Some of the best public schools in the nation, great place to raise kids, low crime, and comparatively cheap housing. You can buy one hell of a house for $750-$1M if that's your thing.

My home's value has increased dramatically over the last 4 years which is extremely annoying though for me right now. The amount in taxes I pay now compared to what I paid 4 years ago is 40% higher. My plan in the next three years is to buy a couple of acres outside the city and build a simple 1,200 ft2 home and a 4 car garage building for what I sell our current home for. I'm definitely not looking to get something bigger. Less crap, the better.
