Akrapovic slip on
Hello everyone
I am tempted to install an Akrapovic slip-on exhaust. I don't want to install the full exhaust as this would make the car illegal in Belgium and complexify future technical inspections. Has anyone experience with this system? How does it sound? Thanks |

if you can't swap out the mid-pipe section then I'd go with a more stripped down axleback exhaust setup like the GThaus SGT

I've ordered a M5 G99 and I discussed briefly with the local tuning shop when I was there for a wheel swap (winter -> summer) what they think is possible on the M5 Gxx in terms of improving the sound and staying within the legal rules of Belgium.
They stated back then that it will be possible to improve the sound to some degree but those filters will always hold back the sound. The question is then, is it worth spending the money on the Akropovic slip-on line? I'm not (yet) convinced that the price/quality makes sense compared to the improvement. They also told me there are most likely better price/quality alternatives not taking away that Akropovic is top of the bill in terms of exhaust systems. There might be more interesting alternatives price/quality wise that can improve the sound within the small margin that is left to stay within Belgian regulations. They said if you spend around 4K euro's you'll have a very good alternative. When I test drove the m5 G90, the exhaust sounded good in stationary mode. Driving around, it was numbed down a lot in my opinion. You could hear some sounds and some burbles but it was pretty subtle (too subtle). This doesn't sound bad - assuming they only used the slip-on exhaust: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DJMPFuuv9Yo/ In idle mode, the difference doesn't seem to be so big in this video: |

Hello
Indeed, in stationary, the sound is decent. But the moment you start driving, it becomes really quiet. I saw the Akrapovic slip on in real life, and I am not convinced it is worth the money. The improvements are marginal. You need to get rid of the OPF for a real step up. That is my current conclusion at least ![]() Last edited by CedosBel; 06-24-2025 at 02:25 PM.. |

I run Akrapovic slip-on on my M5 (EU spec), to be honest it's 15% difference to me with stock.

I have order mid april the full line(evolution) akrapovic for my g90 and waited for almost 2.5 half. But the result was disappointing. Its good only when you start the engine and in standing mode, the rest is not. Doesnt worth spending so much money. I have approached different specialists, they all say that only downpipe will give me what i want.
