What have you asked for as compensation from BMW?

What are some things you have asked for as compensation and received from BMW if your car has been in service for 2-3 weeks for a random issue?

I’ve heard of people getting a month’s payment off? I have personally been through one lemon and got a 3 month loaner while the replacement was being built and some goodies from the store (car models, toys for the kids, etc).

Im just wondering what extent your dealer or BMW NA has gone to for you?

They do these on a case-by-case basis. Just ask for what you think is fair. Provide them with any objective inconveniences, plus costs like gas you had to buy if it was significant compared to your charging costs. You may get a month's payment covered, or at least part of one.

My X3 was recently at the dealer for a recall and minor warranty work they discovered when inspected. They gave me an X3 to drive while mine was being repaired, what else could I expect?

I had an M550 in for a month once. I don't recall what the problem was - wiring harness, fuel injectors, I dunno. Part had to come from Germany. I went to the sales manager and said I made a $900 lease payment on a car I didn't have. They cut me a check for $900. Whether or not they got reimbursed from BMW is unknown.

Did you also have a loaner?

No BMW experience but with a M-B Metris cargo van in for a (2nd) failing (in around 5K miles) low pressure fuel pump to make amends for the vehicle being down the dealer (I forget the employee's title) asked about making a car payment/lease payment for me. I replied I had neither I had bought the van for cash.

I was not offered anything else.

I purchased a CPO car from a highly reputable BMW dealership. Throughout my first month of ownership, I started to notice an obnoxious cabin noise when driving over bumps. Brought it to three different dealerships, and two of them had no idea where the noise was coming from. I contacted BMW NA about my concern, and they told me to bring it to another dealership, which they ended up fixing the problem. But pretty much my car was in the shop for two months and BMW NA made it right by paying two months worth of my car payment.

Out of curiosity, what was the cause of the noise?

Back in 2022, a month after finding a perfectly spec'd X3 (this was still when they were removing options due to Covid parts availability) some one hit me. The car spent 3 months at a BMW collision center. Longest lead time part was the headlight and when it finally arrived it was the wrong side. BMW covered 1 month of my lease payment.

They do wait until the vehicle is returned to you to make any compensation (this way if timeline gets extended they only have to do the compensation once), but do it's recommended to open the case with them when the car is in for service.

Also had a recent issue that I brought my X3M in for service on. The dealer couldn't replicate but indicated because it was a safety issue they didn't want to release the car to me until someone from BMW NA could come and look at it (with no estimate of how long that would take). I did call BMW NA to ask if they had any indication of timing and the customer service rep mentioned compensation if the car was in the shop for an extended period of time. It only wound up being a few days so I didn't pursue anything further, but was nice they offered.

It turned out it was the rear suspension. It took awhile to determine that because the noise sounded like it was coming from the rear dash or the headliner. Without the BMW engineer that travels from dealership to dealership help, this job would've been longer.

Not really an answer to your question. But my engine died under warranty. As a result of some back and forth, they agreed to a Carbahn Stage 2 Engine and then some.
