M5 Touring vs RS6

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I currently drive a G80 but the lease is ending soon and I'm contemplating either M5 Touring or the RS6, for which I'm hunting some of the last allocations before next gen hits.

It seems like the RS6 is less responsive than the G80 both in power and cornering due to its size.
I'm wondering how it compares to the M5 Touring.

Anyone here went from RS6 to M5, or cross-shopped both?

My main selling points to the RS6 are : less polarizing looks, that V8 sound I'm not all that ready for a PHEV. However I'd hate to feel like the driving dynamics are a downgrade from my G80.

Thoughts/opinions?

Both of these cars are substantially larger than the G80. Can’t expect them to be as sharp and nimble. Different use cases.

The plug in hybrid part really is a huge plus. Coming from a G05 45e can attest BMWs execution is exceptional.

chris harris thinks the G90/99 is a no brainer pick over the RS6

RS6 looks much better and has a nicer interior. More leather. Honeycomb stitching. But the tech is outdated. RS6 will probably depreciate slower because it’s not a PHEV. Exhaust note is also better on RS6.

Next gen RS6 will reportedly be a V6 PHEV. So if you want a V8 then try to grab one now.

2021 audis are selling for $82k already. so in 3-4 years they have lost 45%. So just slightly better than previous models

Depreciation is going to harsh on all of these cars. Electric and plug-in hybrids are doing even worse than ICE vehicles because battery technology is advancing quickly, making even relatively newish cars depreciate quickly. For example, I had a Cayenne Turbo for 3 years that depreciated 32% but my Cayenne Turbo S (plug-in hybrid) depreciated 50% over three years. This was in part that used car prices are generally lower right now but look at used Taycan prices if you want to see scary depreciation.

Unfortunately the same is generally true for most M, AMG and RS cars. Best to enjoy them rather than thinking about them as investments or buy them used since there tend to be a lot of low mileage M, AMG and RS cars if you are flexible on colors and options.

I traded my Cayenne for a lightly used RS6 until I can get an allocation for an individual color M5 touring.

Totally agree on all points, although all of these things will be depreciation grenades, let’s not kid ourselves. We aren’t buying 250 GTOs here.

That said, I’m looking at either buying my F90C out or an RS6. The V8 without a battery tacked in just too much fun.

If maintaining driving dynamics similar to the g80 is your main thing, definitely drive both before you go down that path. Both are awesome cars, but neither will handle/drive like the g80. Not a downgrade necessarily, but they are not built with the same dynamics in mind.

Demand has died down significantly for the rs6 and has for over a year now. The Performance didn’t do well as those who already had the ‘21-‘23 didn’t need to buy essentially the same car. I felt it was a little lazy for Audi to not set the Performance apart more in either appearance or performance.
The GT with all its hype have been hard to move even without an ADM. Carries a much higher price tag and unless you love the livery and the spoiler, I’m not sure how appealing it is.
I had a ‘22 and loved the way the car looked everytime I saw it but have no regrets with my g90.

What was MSRP in 21 for these cars? I think your calculator may be broken

Care to elaborate on the driving dynamics of the rs6 vs g90?

Dunno… I think PHEV is gaining in popularity. Even Lamborghini have them now.

They will still depreciate faster than pure ICE, due to the cost of replacing the EV batteries.

Has anyone actually got a quote for that?
I wonder can you bang in an aftermarket set?
