OEM midpipe delete / removal on G90 M5

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
G90 Owners will know that exhaust note is one of the weak points of the car.
Since the G90 has a new exhaust system, I was wondering if anyone has gutted the midpipe to make the exhaust louder.

Many people (including myself) has done this on F90 M5, but no info/data available on the G90's.

Any pics would be much appreciated and helpful to the community.

Thanks!

The European version has the opf instead of the big resonator in the USA version see the pic (very surprising and I think it explains why usa version sounds even worse the European and it is the first time that a usa version has a resonator to replace opf instead of a straight pipe like the f90 m5)
Solution just remove this bigresonator and straight pipe this portion

The second pic in blue is the second resonator in both cars usa and European version and I think if straight piping not enough this can be replaced with x pipe
Hope that helps
I came with all this after observing my car and other European cars
I also may go this route

My f90 I used a Dinan x pipe and afterwards the sound was pretty good, I plan on doing the same to the G90, secondary DP and x pipe.

It’s only a matter of time before parts start to be released - in the mean time this gives me time to get the comsmetic done. I am sure the g90 will have even more pops and bangs once they start releasing tunes.

I will start with removing the big resonator and straight pipe this pat and this should sound like stock f90

I had the first resonator swapped with a x-pipe and straight piped the second one. The sound did get better - still nothing like the F90 with the same mod.

Stocksure, were all curious here. Could you take some video clips of the mod.

I am getting my resonators removed next week and will post some videos
I am having an X pipe replacing one of them and the other straight
I am debating if I should place the x pipe closest to the collectors(front) or closer to the muffler (back of the car)
I read about it on Google and they say closest to the engine is better but for some reason recent bmw have pipes closest to the rear muffler (on the m550 and m3 and I think this car ) and i saw vavetronic putting the x pipe in the back
Any input will be helpful

I would probably consider an H style pipe appose to the X. The on my X6M I heard a few that did the X and it was abit too raspy for my liking. I did the H instead and it was the perfect low deep tone, there was some drone but it wasnt really noticeable. The H-pipe was installed around the middle of the car, but if you ask me thats where I would think it would be best, otherwise closest the collector sound like it would be more sensible.

Thank you!
I am wondering the one you heard were with secondary cat delete (dp) or stock secondary downpipes
I am keeping my downpipes stock for now for this reason (I hate rasp)
I am like you prefer deep tone so I am keeping my downpipes stock
I will give it a shot with x pipe and see if I dont like it i will tell them to do H pipe instead
Do you happen to have a videos with x pipe on X6 M

No cat deletes and only the resonator was deleted and replaced with the X-pipe and mine was the H-Pipe. All X6M's including mine were stock but had M performance exhausts since that comes stock in all Canadian comp models.

Typically these pipes are custom made at the exhaust shop so its not a quick process, plan for a couple of hours. Irregardless, I think that youll still like the X-Pipe, but if you decide to have an H-Pipe I think all of us enthusiasts would really appreciate you taking video clips of the sound and photos of the install so we can relate and debate.

Im sorry, I used to have sounds clips but after I sold my X6M in early 2023 I deleted them not thinking they'd come into use later on.

Yes for sure i will be taking photos and videos with exhaust sound before and after
I already bought premade X pipe from Amazon (2 of them and will keep it for the shop to decide which one is better)
Will get back to everyone next Monday with hopefully some sound clips!

Thanks for the update.
When you say “not enough”, is it volume?
Have you considered gutting the end mufflers?

I dont know how to explain it but it is not exciting
On a idle or low speed sounds decent and no complaints
But when you push it and when upshifting or downshifting it lacks sound
I had an M8 with stock exhaust before and i want at least similar sound
This car will even sound better then m8 with appropriate exhaust given it sounds more m850i and has deeper sound it just need the right exhaust
I did not eant to play with the muffler given it is a lease
