BMW F07 GT (2011) - Front & Rear Screen Video Mirroring Issue (BimmerCode)

Hello everyone,

I own a 2011 BMW 550i GT (F07 xDrive) with the factory rear entertainment system (RSE). My main issue is that I cannot mirror the rear screen to the front display or vice versa. I would like to control the rear DVD playback from the front, but currently, the only way to interact with it is via the remote control.

As parents sitting in the front seats, this becomes a real inconvenience, especially when our child is watching a DVD. The problem is that we cannot see what is happening on the rear screen, even though we have the remote control. For example, when the DVD menu requires language selection, my wife (who sits in the front passenger seat) has to lean back towards the rear screen to see what is displayed because there is no way to view it on the front display. This is uncomfortable and unsafe.

Additionally, I am encountering DVD playback restrictions between the front and rear screens:

• On the front screen, I get the error: “The rear DVD cannot be played on the front screen.”

• On the rear screen, I get the error: “The front DVD cannot be played on the rear screen.”

What I Have Tried So Far:

• Enabled “Video in Motion” via BimmerCode
→ No effect, still cannot see the rear video in the front.

• Checked RSE (Rear Seat Entertainment) coding options
→ Tried activating “rse_mid_rueko” and “rse_mid_plus_rueko”, but they didn’t help.

• Tested different DVD settings and playback options
→ No success.

What I Am Looking For:

• Is there a hidden coding option in BimmerCode or E-Sys/NCS Expert to enable front-rear screen mirroring?

• Has anyone successfully unlocked full front control over rear DVD playback?

• Is there a way to allow front DVD playback on the rear screens and vice versa?

• Could this be a hardware limitation, or is there an alternative coding method that allows front display interaction?

Any help or insights would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance!

Welcome to BimmerPost!

You will probably want to post this in the appropriate model section for the F07 chassis model years. This section is for questions about using the forum software, and only a few people actually read it.....

Thank you for your response!

I understand that this section might not be the best place for my question, but I believe the F07 and F10 models share many similarities, especially when it comes to iDrive software and the Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) system. Since both platforms use a similar architecture, the coding solutions for the F10 might also apply to the F07.

Would you recommend a specific section where more people with experience in RSE coding or iDrive modifications might see this? I’d really appreciate any guidance!

Thanks again!

It appears that you have posted this question where I was going to suggest:
