Even though your image and Badger's were similar (both showing folks in front of a fireplace), I thought Badger's evoked just the opposite feeling. When I look at his image (which is an excellent shot, BTW), I see cold tones and a guy who looks like he's freezing and is trying to grab whatever warmth he can from a fire that is way too small for the job. It actually gives me the chills. But your shot, Dave, shows a toasty dining room with warm tones. IMHO, much more on theme. But that's what these contests come down to; opinions.

Mark I know what you're saying and usually I'm not big on "fine art" but I honestly like a lot of the simplicity in Barth's work. It's not work based around big complex concepts but rather shapes, lines and light in everyday life. Not all her work is OOF just this series, but she does have a style that is apparent throughout her work.
Personally I thought it would be nice to do a theme that was fairly open to interpretation. If people just go shoot OOF junk it won't look good. The trick is for the focus to distorted for a reason, to show us something more that what is on the surface.
As it's gray and nasty here, I'll need something to keep me busy shooting around the house. I'll come up with something. Hopefully in focus.

It's bright and beautiful here, but 4-degrees F. I'm staying in and processing my cruise images.

Dave
I'm still slogging my way through our Vegas images. So many pictures, so little time.

+1 I thought's badger picture gave the opposite of warmth. It felt as if someone is living in a freezer.

You mean massive body roll, a steering system that is not connected to the front wheels, and the engine note played through the speaker system?!?!?!?!

Agree, but that's what makes these contests more unpredictable. Lots of different perspectives in this forum.
