I was just shoot some quick test pics on the wall in my office and they had this orange cast in various places in the shot. I was thinking maybe I had screwed up the sensor or something.

Then I went outside and took pics of the back door in daylight (the door is solid tan) and the shots came out fine. Pics of the parking lot came out fine as well. I'm thinking the shots above are the first ones I've taken in my office with the mega-fluorescent lights I have on the ceiling turned on. I usually leave them off because they are way too bright. This banding must be some weird thing with the lights. I even tried setting the WB to fluorescent, but it didn't help.

they cycle. and sensors scan from top to bottom. so depending on the shutter speed, depends on the size of the banding (and the speed of banding if video). if you shoot in there at 1/50 or 1/60 it'll get rid of it.

Ask your wife, she might think something is wrong with the camera body too ;-)
and it just so happens.... the new body is coming out.

"Honey, this new body will fix the problem I've been having."

"What problem is that?"

"The fact that I don't have the new body yet."

The thought had occurred.

One needs to be careful when discussing an improved body with one's wife.

Thanks, rodi. I was thinking that may be the issue because of the way the banding appeared to be moving in sequential shots. I've just never seen it before.

desaturate orange

but yeah, you can have some fun with high shutter speeds and flashes. You can basically cut peoples heads off if you set the shutter too fast for the flashes abilty to sync up. similar to your band in the photo and how it moves about.
