After reading this thread last Friday, I found a 993 Carrera 4S parked near my car in the parking garage. I love the widebody versions of the 993; wish I could afford to pick one up.

Since interest rates are cheap, I would probably get financed. I would probably save that cash to invest in any types of investment that pays more than 150-200% of what you are getting a rate of vehicle loan at.

This is the plan, but it's a matter of pulling the trigger because "YOLO" vs. being conservative/responsible

I would love anything 'S', but they're out of my price range. I'd be happy with a C2 w/Fabspeed exhaust.

I'm currently stalking a left over 2013 Hyundai Genesis coupe 2.0 turbo at my local dealership. The price has steadily gone down over the last several months. I suspect it was a demo. They're looking to get $22k for it. Only drawbacks are red color and auto trans. (with paddle shifters tho)

Had a 2013 as a rental. They're not bad cars. Considered picking one up myself.

my two others brothers are not as financially free as me, so they get "help" in the form of paid off cars, camera equipment for work, down payments for new houses, cell phone bills paid and credit cards that they can use in case of emergency....

I'm blessed to be in the position I'm in to not need it, but I'm jealous that they GET it, know what I mean !?!?

for once, I'd like to get a nice toy or something that I didn't have to fork over my hard earned money for...

they arent manipulating the rate. what happens is they get "sold" the rate at a certain percentage and whatever they tack on is profit for them.

don't forget that with an aged car, you'll need to have money set aside for maintenance and repairs. So don't only calculate the cost of the car itself.

That's mostly my fear of getting one. They'll run forever if you maintain them, but they're expensive to maintain.

Out of curiosity, I was looking at prices for 964 and 993 model 911s. Seeing how much people are asking for them, I'd probably go with a used 997 instead for similar money.

Love the 997, but that defeats the allure of owning an aircooled 911.

Who do they get "help" from? Because perhaps helping someone with rent, or making a payment here or there, perhaps for food or clothes sounds like help, but I cannot consider a Canon 1D or paying someone's cell phone bill as "help".

As a child I didn’t really know what was going on. To me it was just a game myself; my brother and sister would play whenever someone turned on the hydrant. I later found out that we had no running water. Tough times for sure.

If you're single and 27 then go for the second (fun) car before its too late. I was in the same situation when I got my Z4 several years back. I've even added a M-roadster to the stable just because I loved it so much when I was younger. Now married with a baby, I really don't get a chance to drive those two cars anymore. There are cobwebs attached to the two roadsters. My wife rarely drives so I'm forced to drive 4 cars (2 SUVs) even when I have no where to go. Starts to feel like a chore of walking the dogs but you can't walk them all at the same time. The right thing to do would probably be selling maybe the Z4 and one of the SUV but I really hate parting with cars.

I'd go 100% cash just so it puts more pressure on making a better decision. Why not use that money and upgrade to something that will work well as a daily and an excellent weekend car? Since you'll be paying insurance, registrations, and maintenance anyway, just combine those and I'm pretty sure you could probably work in a newer 911 (maybe 997 or even 991 if you stretch it a little) and daily that.

3 birds, 1 stone.
1) You get that 911 before you turn 30
2) You get an excellent weekend car and a reasonable daily
3) you probably save more in the long run from keeping 2 cars at the same time.

Have you driven a 993? I found it to be underwhelming tbh. Great looking, but I don't think they are worth the price of entry.

I have a lot of experience with a specific 3.2 carrera (an '86 targa owned since new by my father) and I think they are probably the best value right now if you are looking for an aircooled 911. Lots of fun to drive, reliable and easy to work on. By modern standards it is not very fast (not many aircooled 911s are), but the fun factor is tough to beat. Very visceral experience that requires your attention and effort to enjoy. Obviously I am biased towards this iteration of the 911, but I think it has a number of advantages to the 993 or 964.
