iPod Touch Questions
Ok I realize that there's a bunch of threads discussing the Touch, (yes I have searched) but I was just wondering what current owners though of their purchase after a while of using it. I'm currently in the market to upgrade from my ancient 4gb mini. I'm really interested in the Touch, but the 160gb Classic lingers... 10x more memory for $50 less is enticing, but is it worth not having WiFi? So here's some questions for you Touch owners...
Are you still satisfied with your purchase? Do you wish you had gone with the 160gb Classic? Is 16gb enough? Does the WiFi work well? Any problems? Any word if there's going to be a memory upgrade soon? Thanks!

Is a 4 gig nano enough for you now? If so then 16 gigs is plenty.
I was going to get the 16gig touch but opted out and got an 8 gig iphone that I unlocked. Now days I dont use it as a phone anymore and its just my ipod/calander/internet/camera. I really couldnt pass up the fact that the iphone was the same price as the touch yet has bluetooth and a camera and the ability to edit functions such as calendar ect. So if you can live with an 8 gigs of storage I would suggest getting the iphone over the touch and just using the iphone as an itouch. I personally would never go back to a normal ipod, after being spoild on a flash based iphone along with a screen that doesnt scratch and the ability to surft the net and install apps.. |

There is a memory upgrade soon. Depends if you need it. Only thing I can see taking up a lot of space is videos. Unless you have thousands and thousands of songs.

Where are you getting your info? All the mac rumor sites have nothing about this.. Its only been out for 69 days, the average ipod update is 250ish days.

The touch is imo the stupidest purchase you could ever make. Get an iPhone for the same price and deal with having 8gb less storage. Or get the Classic.

An update will come much sooner for the itouch as compared to other ipod updates because the flash memory is constantly getting cheaper. So within the coming months not sure how many, there will be a higher gb version.

i have the iphone (which is pretty much a glorified touch) and have to tell you i'm incredibly disappointed in the sound quality. the signal-to-noise ratio must be really low on it because any higher quality audio files show very clear signs of distortion.
in addition to that, the EQ choices are very, very limited. on top of it, if you choose one of more acceptable presets (like Rock, Jazz or Latin) the distortion is even more pronounced. i know it's sexy, beautiful, easy to use and blah blah blah, but if you're an audiophile, you will throw the idea of any Apple music player out of the window along with its crappy packaged headphones.

I still say get the iphone, you dont have to use it with a cell service just use the simple activator apps available on the web and use it as an itouch but with bluetooth and a camera, then jailbreak it and install 3rd party apps. I see more development for the iphone as far as jailbreaking it since over 250,000 iphones are unlocked and so far the iphone has been hacked first then the touch. But of course now both are on the same FW version so its about even. |

I will be selling my ipod video and nano and purchasing an itouch shortly. Also have a 10 percent discount for best buy so i'll get it at a somewhat good deal. No tax either in New Hampshire.

I don't need the phone. I would've gotten the touch a few days ago, but the memory capacity is a huge hinderance. I think I'm going to wait til February for an update.

OT, but anyone have issues with mp3 sound quality, on any player(edited)? When you hook it up to a good speaker system, e.g. your home stereo, sound sux.
With the huge increases in mp3 player capacities, why would one still copy music files in a lossy compression format? Why not just start 'ripping' as FLACs (or other lossless format)? You can store 1000's of albums in a lossless format on a 1 Terabyte external HD, hooked directly to a home AV receiver, through a USB. When will stop 'ripping' as mp3s? I think the answer is now. I think I'll go ask Google........ Edit - hey Alpine, how you been? Will your Inglehame Farms house be affected by the new road opennings? I moved closer to Wilson Pike, just north of Concord, into Brentmeade (close to the north end of Jones Parkway). Last edited by Neurorad; 11-15-2007 at 06:28 PM.. |
