back to the OP, I just got out of college so I want to live in an apartment for a while (maybe a townhome) so I don't have to worry about any up-keep needed when you own your property. That is why I went car > house.

Economics 101: The "cost" of living somewhere is based on personal prefrence and needs. It may "cost" more for one person to live in the same house as it would a different person with the same income. This is called "preference".

The cost of living in NYC/LA/London is higher than in Hicksville (for a comparable lifestyle, I thought that would be obvious) because there are more people who want to live there. Simple.

The cost of living is higher yes, but that is not what you said at first. You said it was WORTH more, which is might or might not be depending on the person. Get a clue would you?

Case in point. I have a masters in actuarial science. Need me to educate you in how the prices are set? The worth of something is not universal. This is the reason you see some actors rolling around in Hybrid cars... not because they can't afford it but because they put a higher price on the environment than on a nice car... unlike "most" other rich people.
