Question Porsche 991.1 GTS vs 991.2 4S - Sound Comparison

What do you guys think? Have the twin-turbos killed the sound of the 911? Which one do you guys like more?

Please don't forget to subscribe if you don't mind

I couldn't swing a 991.2 but even if I could I wouldn't simply due to the exhaust note. Same reason why I'll never buy an F80.

Haha I am on the same boat with you. I will be a used car collector in the future I guess

GTS stock.

but i think the 991.2 will sound better with a more aggressive aftermarket exhaust.

Sound better than a naturally aspirated GTS with a modified exhaust or better than stock 991.2 4S -> which is pretty obvious of course.

Agree. Couldn't bother to see beyond the first three clips but on the video the turbo one sounded better to me. Was at a Porsche Club hpde and the best exhaust sounds were from the occasional e9x M3s and corvettes.

I disagree. The GTS sounds absolutely amazing in person But an e9x M3 sounds not bad either of course

Sound is super subjective, though performance is always measurable.
Hard to say that car sounds bad as it's turbos spool and passes by you in your "v8"

The 991.1 is on of the best sounding cars IMO, and many others, and is even better in the GT3 and RS models.
I think the transition to the turbo 911 in terms of sound has retained a lot more of the sound of the NA car than most other cars. The m3/4 sound awful as sin and only gets worse adding an aftermarket exhaust. The e9x unless you spent money on an aftermarket exhaust didn't sound very good either. But a 991.1 with sport exhaust (oem option) is pure Motorsport bliss and absolutely incredible sounding. I get compliments by just about everyone who hears it when I have mine out.

IMO the 991.2 sounds great. It has a nice mix of air and water cooled Porsche. Inside the car, it sounds phenomenal. Outside you do get the whistling but still a nice sound...just not as nice as the NA engine.

Then again, the 991.2 also drives just as well if not better than the 991.1 and as the poster above mentions, performance went to another level altogether. The 991.2 base traps 118 mph, the S 121 mph and the S is on the same tires faster than the M4 GTS and almost as fast as the 991.1 GT3. That says a lot.

Btw - while like their music, many would probably not agree Carnifex sounds "pleasing to the ears". That is also a total assumption that your user name is based on the band.

My 991 GT3 with a GMG bypass sounds amazing, I get compliments on it all the time even from Lambo and Ferrari owners. My 997TT sounded like a vacuum cleaner with stock exhaust, but again GMG saved the day. I'm a huge fan of GMG exhausts for 911s.

Agreed. The flat 6 is such a harmonious and intoxicatingly good sounding engine from any rpm. Lambos sounds incredible. Ferraris IMO only sound good really high in the rev range. Never liked the very coarse nasty exhaust note at like below 5k RPMs. GMG does make some great stuff too.
