Really? You've driven the X3. I've test driven 3 different 2008 X3's and their ride is better than anything in the class. I've driven the new Highlander, Pilot, Mazda C9, Lexus RX300, and Ford Explorer. Out of all of them the X3 has the best ride and handling. I also got a chance to drive it in the snow. It powers right through. It is not tippy. I've driven a 2004 and 2005 X5 and thought the dimensions weren't all that much bigger, and the ride was more tippy. Also, I like the 2008 styling of the interior better. The 2006 X5 I sat in even looked dated.

The X3 is a nice little SAV. Albeit, not that pretty, but it grows on ya. Maybe I'll get one someday.

Not growin' on me...and it's been quite a long time since it was first introduced. I love the X5, but god almighty do I hate the looks of the X3.

It might drive slightly better due to the dimensions/weight, but, just as with the case between a 1 and a 3, I can't sacrifice that much in the looks department for slightly better handling.

Yeah, my little brother owned one ('04) and i've driven it on several occasions. The only thing I really liked about it was the sunroof, but that's about it. To me, the ride feels extremely bouncy...like the springs/shocks were unmatched or something. Still, it is definitely the best bang for your buck in its class....a solid little SAV minus all the bells/whistles.

I agree with the post that the interior is very disappointing, even for BMW standards. It's got a great panoramic sunroof but that's about it. Feels front heavy, over-steers, and tranny sucks.

If you are gonna get an X3, I would seriously look into CR-V, RDX, EX etc. Let's face it, they are all ugly and not fun to drive, might as well save some money!

Had the X3 and now have an X5. With the 3.0 the X3 hauls, and with x-drive I skunked more then a few so-called sports cars in the twisties. In the snow it shines. The X5 with the same 3.0 is a dog (or is that just cause I drive a 335 now). But, I love the interior and exterior of the x5 soooo much more then the x3. In fact now-a-days, when I see an x3 I cringe.
