Buy your BMW features OTA
This is either is going to be a coder's dream or a used car's nightmare. Can imagine stripping a car of it's features and profiting again by making the new owner buy them again. Then again if you have a program device, save the money by getting a base and code everything in.

What a joke. Subscribe to use the high beam assistant... BMW absolutely deserves 100% of the flak they receive for these tactics.
Glad they got rid of the CarPlay subscription (at least in NA). |

Living in Alaska and need to drive down to California? Download your cool seat function OTA now for only $1000.
Want to remote start your car like every other brand of vehicle out there? Download your remote start now for only $800. We know the functions are already installed in your car but the marketing and sales department insisted on getting additional cash from consumers. (Brought to you by the people who thinks oversized grille is a good idea) |

U use to be able to go into the connected drive store and see what u have as far as traffic WiFi and how much time remaining before it expired now it's u got it or don't but I think it's a ploy because now the force fed us these new bundled packages they have now and u need to go to there website for this u would think that they would atleast make it so u can see or examine ur account from the app but that's a no go as well Smh 🤦

In terms of getting new functions in the car this really makes sense in Denmark. All options that are installed at the time of vehicle registration are taxed at 150% + 25% VAT. All options installed after registration is only applied VAT. I however would prefer not to have expensive hardware in my car regardless of whether I paid for it or not. For some models you can apparently get the adaptive suspension over the air so once you need new dampers you have to pay for the expensive ones.
This is btw how Tesla does so maybe BMW just tries to be modern.

Welcome to the automotive shift thanks to Tesla. They are very successful while using these models so other automakers are also seeing if they too can be successful at this.
I'm sure it is also driven by the bean counters just as much as it is by the marketing department. If they can make this work they could, in theory, have a much more streamlined manufacturing process where they have very little deviation between cars of the same model on a hardware and assembly perspective. For owners though it adds a whole lot of extra complexity. For instance, will you lose access to various car features when it can't verify you have ownership of these features (like the CarPlay issue last year). A key question we'll soon learn the answer to is if the CarPlay going free was a result of BMW learning owners aren't interested in subscriptions and OTA purchases or if they just felt the pressure due to CarPlay being free across the rest of the automotive market. I'm not a fan of this personally and I wouldn't buy the car if I felt like I was going to be getting pop ups for "DLC" constantly like a video game. Once and done. I'll buy what I want when I order the car. |

It would actually be fun if they took some cues from the game industry. Like how about a loot box to get random DLC? You have a small chance to open the box and get a GTS tune, but will most likely unlock the Sirius 24/7 Kentucky banjo station. Fun!!
Just in case someone from EA reads this - this is sarcasm. And a terrible fucking idea. Please don't contact BMW. And please quit working for the great Satan |

Found this: https://www.bmw-connecteddrive.de/ap...#/portal/store
On the right side there is a filter option for your vin code. Then it filters the options available for your car.
