My go to is the same car wash soap I'm using on the rest of the car. I wash my car regularly enough where this, along with a nice soft wheel cleaning brush, does the trick with little effort. I might be wrong but I assume most wheel cleaner sprays are much harsher, especially if the manufacturer claims that no scrubbing is required. I plan to ceramic coat my wheels when I switch them up for winter time, and I'm pretty sure that will make the job even easier.

I like P&S Brake Buster, reasonably priced, though chemical smell.

does it change how you do it if they're ceramic coated?

Ceramic coating won't change my process since I just use car wash soap and a soft brush. Hopefully they get a little less dirty between washes with the coating and when I do wash I expect they are slightly quicker to clean.

This is what I use with a foam cannon and dedicated wheels brushes. So far all P&S products are recommendable, but their interior cleaner is the subtle winner. (Yes, even more then bead maker).

Well, that depends Your choices for "safest" are basically acidic vs non-acidic ... and, of course, there are pros & cons to each.

The con of non-acidic cleaners is they don't dissolve brake dust so it makes cleaning harder & shittier.

The con of acidic is, they can damage raw metal ... but in general, people with BMWs, don't have to worry about that unless you have horrible (like, really horrible) curb rash you don't intend to have repaired, but somehow want to "maintain" ... seems low probability but people be freaks, ya know?

Pan talks about some of them here:

In general I'd recommend:

(1.) EZ Detail's boar's hair brush set, & Braun's boar's tire brush (you can cheap knock-offs, but you get what you pay for here)

(2.) Superclean diluted 5:1

(3.) Tire first, spray on, dwell, agitate, rinse.

(4.) Dress & protect

Adam's wheel cleaner. They also have a wheel woolie for the inside of the wheel, but for the spokes on my 740M style wheels, I use Adam's Wheel Cleaner and a microfiber towel.
