PPF and Beet Heat

I had PPF installed in January (front clip, rocker panels, plus a few other vulnerable areas). The installer cured the film under heat lamps for 24+ hours. I followed the written care instructions from Ceramic Pro, as well as the installer's verbal care recommendations.

During the follow-up inspection two weeks later, the installer noted several edges which began lifting. We scheduled remediation work for a few weeks hence (I couldn't leave the car then-and-there for a couple days).

Fast forward those few weeks, and nearly every piece has begun coming unglued in one spot or another. The installer alleges the Beet Heat applied to local roadways within two weeks after PPF installation is to blame. I think it has more to do with how the film was installed. Either way, the defective film will be replaced.

Has anyone ever heard what might cause Beet Heat to compromise the adhesive used in PPF to break down before it's been fully cured?

Sounds like installer error

Reminds me I need to schedule to have mine redone

Word of warning to those looking for PPF, when all the recommended shops are booked up for two months, don't go with the guy who happens to have availability next week. He probably doesn't know what he is doing!

One reputable shop told me they can't get staff anymore and all their experienced guys left for better paying jobs in the pandemic

I wasn't happy with mine at all. Bubbles and lifting edges, dust in the tints etc. they redid the hood and tints and it's just as bad.

Not worth my time having them do it again. I don't think they are good at it

It's not that bad but up-close I can notice and that's what matters

Not yet. An employee broke the wire which cuts the film, and that part is back-ordered (a few weeks). Hopefully by end of April I'll be scheduled for remediation.

So you're getting a plotted install instead of a custom tucked edge and badges job? What are they charging you?

Actually, the shop resizes the plotted pattern, in order to tuck many edges. Some pieces are custom cuts. Badges and fender 'air breathers' weren't removed, though. Total tab was ~$2,500 for front clip, mirrors, rocker panels and a few other vulnerable areas.
