Passenger side center air vent
2022 X6 M50i
Just noticed the air vent in the center on the passenger side is hard to move and the bottom part doesn't move. Seems like the tab for the moving mechanism is broken. Mentioned it to my service advisor at the BMW of Freeport and they are saying it's not covered by warranty!!! First said it would be $1300 to replace the entire center piece because it has the AC control screen too. After pushing them to contact BMW corporate, they said they would split the cost with me and it would be $800 for me. Obviously, I declined. Car was over $100k and got it in Sept 2021 and I have less than 6k miles on it. I'm usually the only one in the car. No kids. Likely came that way and never noticed it. I put in a call to BMW corporate and waiting to hear back. Any recommendations? Worse case scenario, anyone know how to remove/disassemble that center vent piece without breaking anything? |

It does look like that whole control/vent section would need to be replaced. Part alone is about $1000. To remove that piece you will need to basically remove the entire piece of decorative trim that runs the length of the dash (the center control/vent section is attached to it). To do this, you will need to: remove trim around the instrument cluster, remove side panel on right side of dash (access it by opening passenger door), remove one screw from area around instrument cluster, remove two screws from area around right side panel, and release about 8 clips on the decorative trim. Then you can remove the entire piece and then separate the control/vent section from the decorative trim. After that, I'm not sure how or if the vents can be detached and fiddled with.
