Ceramic coating immediately after PCD

While I've still got a long wait ahead of me, I'm considering doing PCD for the firs time. I never got a chance to do European delivery and so this I'm told is the next best thing.

I live a good 12 hours drive away from the PCD facility, so it'll be a nice long 800 mile journey back home if I choose to do PCD - which I'm fine with as it'll help pile on some break-in miles.

However, the long journey does have me concerned about unprotected paint. Has anyone used Extreme Auto Spa in Greenville? I think they're a few minutes away from the PCD facility. I'm wondering if I book an appointment with them once I've confirmed my PCD date and have them do a ceramic coating/PPF same day - and if that'll add significant waiting time (will probably have to spend at least an extra night in Spartanburg).

Anyone have experience with them or any other nearby shops... or any other advice?

I actually called them since I am doing PCD but with timing I would have to wait an extra 1-2 days which would mean getting a hotel etc etc. Their price also wasn't the best (I got a local quote for front end PPF which was $350 lower). My trip home is around 9 hours so I am thinking I'll just spend an hour before leaving and put blue painters tape on the front end (bumper, partial hood, fenders) before heading home lol

I was in a similar situation as you minus PCD. I got the car from a Dealer in Colorado. Thought about driving 1200 miles back to NJ but summer tires, possible rock chips, salt, potential snow storms and no spare tire convinced me to just ship the car home. You might want to consider a local PPF shop in case you need to go back for touch ups?

Yeah I've considered just taping it up but I'm hoping to take pics on the long drive home so that would make for some not so great pictures lol.

The 1-2 day extra time is one of my hesitations... I'll have a 3-4 month old when the car is likely to be delivered so extended time away from family is difficult.

I would order touch up paint from the dealer now, because your PPF vendor might need it, and it sucks having them wait, or try to get it matched at their local expert. All paint has imperfections, and if your PPF guy does "paint correction" then he might need touch up paint. Took my dealer 8 days to get paint.

I had PCD last December and (thought I) had lined up PPF install with Extreme Colors Auto Spa. However, my delivery date moved up and their availability didn't, so I drove 1,000 miles home 'unprotected'. We stuck mainly to 2-lane roads and maintained extra distance behind whatever vehicle was in front of us. Lo and behold, we arrived home blemish-free.

I scheduled PPF to be installed locally a couple weeks after arriving home, and I applied ceramic coating myself (after all the requisite preparatory steps).

Yeah depending on timing this might end up being my situation as well. Just making the drive home slowly on more local roads, staying off major highways.

Assuming you're based in Chicagoland, you might plot an entertaining route in the Smokey Mountains. Check out US276 through Brevard NC, then partake of the Cherohala Skyway between Robbinsville and Tellico Plains. US27 or US127 gets you through Kentucky and Indiana before catching a northwesterly highway.

Thanks for the suggestions! I was just looking at US276 earlier today. The Cherohala Skyway looks awesome too. I guess one way to pass the time waiting for my order is to plot out the perfect road trip back.

I did the PCD recently and drove all the way back home without the PPF and ceramic done immediately. Was about 850 miles. It didn't bother me. It's coated and tinted now and there is 1 chip in the paint. It isn't the end of the world to me.
