I think that the vinegar in mayo is there primarily to kill bacteria, since mayo was invented before refrigeration was common.....

Funny story. We have a guy at work who is a human garbage disposal. He volunteers to do all post-event breakdowns, so that he can scarf up any leftovers from catered events that are usually sitting out for hours. I was going to ask him what he thought was too long sitting out without refrigeration this morning...but he's out SICK.....

Part of me would want to be kind and eat it. The other part doesn't like food after it's been left out that long. I would probably hide it under all the trash and then take it out to the garbage can. I would feel guilty after I'm pretty sure. It would pass after a few hours though.

So the sub will not be refrigerated for like 6 hours if not a little longer...is that seriously safe to eat?
6 hours or so for a sub?

I'd totally eat it.

Hell, you pack a sandwich in your lunch box first thing in the morning....might have even made it the night before. I'd be eating the thing.

I've put far worse things in my stomach over the years. 6 hour old Sub sandwich won't even make mine the least bit queasy.

Yes, it's ok to take it the neighbors trash can before he eats it.
It's only frowned upon after he eats it.

Yeah, take it to the neighbor's trash. I mean it's not your dog's poop, like in that other thread.

Nah, I don't think it needs to be that extreme. It's not like he's hiding another woman's panties or lingerie.

See, I'm not so sure about that. Perhaps her memory is actually quite sharp and she's cross posting from a very old thread about a certain someone finding panties unexpectedly.

If so, kudos to Rebekah...her memory is quite good!

found it the next morning and ate it cold with the pickles/tomato/lettuce. no problem.
