Like every M5 "to be" that has made its debut in camouflage since the E60 days were over, i've scoffed at the news of something... only to end up wanting it in the end
" no more SMG!?!" " No more V10??" (still not ok with this btw) " Really? thats the front bumper?" " sounds like shit " and then it comes out - and I either wanted it or I bought it. I'm sure this will be an adjustment to us all, but i'll reserve my opinion on THIS specific generation M5 when it's actually here and dresses up in that Competition outfit I like... One thing that we can all sleep easy with is knowing that BMW M Division has kept the soul of the M5 somewhat the same throughout it's life cycle. I'm sure this will be no exception.

(and I smile as I type this bc I love how it F-in sounds , not talking trash) But it's kind of what we agree to when we buy these cars... I , FSHNGRY fully understand that by accepting the ownership of this vehicle that I will be agreeing to.. 1. Horrible MPG 2. NOT a "sneak out unnoticed" car 3. Daily trips around town after suspension and exhaust mods can be exhausting, but who cares 4. LOUD. Especially when modded. 5. Suddenly seeing your hobby cost thousands monthly

G21 was dismissed because of dismal sales of F31 which was also cannibalised by two generations of X3. With the lack of a US G61 BMW have far higher profit vehicles in the guise of iX and X5 including X5M and not forgetting the forthcoming XM. SUV Sales are far greater priority in the number 1 SUV market. The current G31 does not have a V8 and the G61 will possibly not have one either.

I wish these automakers would quit caving in to the EV craze and all the government BS. Performance cars should be left alone to do what they do. So, the EV wins 0-60...so what...the sound of a screaming golf cart does nothing for me.

If they kept the same engines we currently have and then added EV, I would not mind. But I doubt that will be the case. The entire 5 Series is going Hybrid, not just the M5.
The powerful V8's in the current M550's and M5's could be the last ever......sadly. |

1. It's a market and EV's are what's going to sell. Companies are set up to generate profit for their owners. 2. Due to global warming causing climate changes we must stop outputting green house gasses. So we're getting regulations that tips towards EV's as well. Both are good things since combustion engines have two major problems, they are noisy and they pollute. Cities will be much nicer without both. Personally I would take silence over noise any day. |

Why are hybrids crap? Basically, instead of burning the regenerative energy in your pads and rotors and pumping heat and nasty dust into the air you breath, you preserve most of the regen in form of electrical potential energy. Less pollution/heat, better fuel economy.

2024? Damn, I was hoping for a hybrid M5 or M8 release this year.
To all those old souls saying "hybrids are garbage" are you the same people that said "there is no replacement for displacement?" |

Echo chamber inside rich people head: "I don't care what other people say. It's the fastest M5 ever and I like how it looks"
Reality: Emotionless, soulless even WITH a V8 (remember, it's hybridized), total disregard for traditional BMW styling, ugly face. Yup. The next 7 years of this forum sound dandy. |

I keep hearing all this regurgitated nonsense about EVs being cleaner. I have a few in the know science buddies who work at high levels in this field and they have given me the overall carbon footprint of an EV from raw materials to finished product. Trust me, they are FAR from clean energy vehicles. We have a long way to go to produce true carbon efficiency.
