I remember that ad. One of the best! At that time I owned a 2002 E39 530i with a manual transmission, so the ad was particularly entertaining. I loved that car. If only only the siren song of the E39 M5 hadn't called, I'd still have that car.

Is anyone else really bored of ‘M5-weight’ comments?

Not really. It’s got a ton more power, torque and rear wheel steering. Big deal. The taycan turbo GT is even quicker than the CS. And so is the Tesla Plaid. The F90 CS isn’t trying to win the horsepower race but most enthusiasts will agree it’s a once in a generation car with great balance, deft steering and enough performance without feeling like a drag racer. Chris Harris has said it’s the best car he’s owned. I don’t think a Panamera has won a single car award. Except maybe the strongest depreciation curve in the luxury sedan category.

I simply state the fact is, a version of Panamera, despite being a heavy hybrid too, outperforms the ultimate F90 around the Nurburgring. And this pours cold water on the notion that a G90, especially a later variant, can’t match the F90’s speed around a track just because ‘weight’…...

No one disputes that the CS, which is an altogether different car to the 1st F90 anyway, is a different proposition to the likes of a Taycan GT, but these heavy cars can still be quick, as you have highlighted.

By the way, I am not assed about a G90 going around a track. It’s not what I would take around one but then nor was my F90 - I am just bored of weight posts.

Panamera does not outperfom the F90 M5. Never did.

You can not compare different tyre compound and track tests by manufacturers with lap times from magazine. The M5 F90 CP did a 7.35.9 on a non manufacturer run. With the same Cup 2 tyres, some camber work, and balls to the walls driving from a manufacturer test pilot, trust me it would be at least 8-10s faster.

In Autobild, Autozeitung and AutomotorundSport lap time comparos where its the same driver, and similar tyres, the M5 F90 CP is still the quickest sedan on track. I am not going to put the CS as its a limited run car, but hell its even quicker and in some tracks its on pace with really fast variants of supercars. No sedan other than the GT 63 S (non e performance heavy) is close to it on track.

The new G90 M5 is not faster on track to the F90 otherwise BMW would have made a big deal about it, and would have post out some lap times or some records in random tracks. BMW is straying from that as it knows. Mercedes did too with the GT 63 S E Performance, because they know this PHEV heavy cars drive very well but are not faster.

Chris Harris said the G90 M5 still drives very well despite the weight so I am willing to give the G90 M5 a test drive before rejecting it fully.

Physics has no workaround it. These heavy PHEV cars are not going to be quicker

Would like to read it, but it's behind a paywall.

Can you give the cliffs notes?

Ok, facts are facts. The f90 isn’t the fastest sedan around the ring. Unless you don’t class the panamera as a sedan? You say it is fastest on track. Fine, but why buy such a car for track anyway - that what I don’t get with all this chat.

Your point is, the g90 is super heavy. You’re right, it is. You’ve made it, over and over, Stop moaning about it now, move on for your own sanity!

Weird. You only read answers to your own posts? I read all and see that you just moan about the weight of the g90 non stop.
It’s boring mate. Do yourself a big favor and block yourself.
