Frozen paint & full front PPF questions

Hi guys,

First post here. Just got my 2024 m3 g80 in frozen PB. It already came with the front bumper, lights and hood PPF'd, as well as the rear fenders. So it's not an entire full body PPF.

My question is, should I wash the portions of the car that are PPF'd differently than the portions of the car that are just the matte frozen paint (sides and rear bumper)? Or should I just wash the entire car as if it weren't PPF'd?

Looking at getting a Dr. Beasely kit for washing the areas that are not PPF.

Thanks!

Don't know the answer, but the car is gorgeous! Love the look of frozen paint, but would hate to care about it I'd probably wrap it fully in ppf.

Thanks! And yea, that is also an option. I was trying to stay away from frozen paint but this car showed up at the dealership the day before I went in to order my 2025 brooklyn grey g80. They offered me this one fully loaded with all the carbon fiber exterior/bucket seats for the same price as my pre-order (which had standard seats and no CF).

Basically got 10% off MSRP for this vehicle that had <4000 miles on it fully loaded. Was a no brainer, think I got super lucky.

Edit: not to mention it already had the front PPF and tinting done on it too, would've costed me even more to do it to my new vehicle

Due to take delivery of frozen grey G87 at the end of the month
For PPF front end is it Matte or Satin PPF that is used and blends well with the paintwork without PPF

Just purchase Xpel’s Stealth PPF which many have posted will give you a great match to the frozen grey color.

Would recommend getting the full car PPFed if you care at all about the paint condition. Frozen paint is a pretty big pain in the ass to keep looking great and if you ever get any damage like a deep scratch you're pretty much repainting the panel to remedy the issue.

Have a Frozen black xm label … front end PPF covered .

Myself would not live scared of worse case stuff and have that reason change the beautiful color of the frozen paint . To me save that money if you ever need to have the car repainted . To me PPf doesn’t look exactly the same as original frozen paint and all the different colors frozen paint gives in all different shades . It’s a beautiful paint don’t cover it up .

Also only soap and water … chemicals change the color and look I used some chemicals mentioned here and hated what it did to my car I have my car back to how I picked it up and will not ever put any spray chemical or wax on the car my cars paint ever again .

Good luck you have a beautiful car

We will have to agree to disagree on this point. Although our OP didn't mention what the brand of PPF was on this beauty, if it is Xpel's Stealth PPF we have seen countless posts along with pictures in this forum where people have covered the front end of their cars with it and you cannot see any difference where the paint meets the Stealth PPF.

Our OP, infinitylol has acknowledged that he saved a fortune on his purchase as he received 10% off MSRP and also getting a fully loaded car that had carbon fiber exterior/bucket seats and front PPF at no additional cost.

Touchup paint isn't sold for frozen colors so investing some money by putting Stealth PPF on the rest of this car and really protecting this stunning color in a no brainer!

West side guy I don’t disagree with you at all . Funny thing how clear my PPF is when I picked up my frozen black xm label again love it … was on a Saturday and I more of a novice on PPF could not tell the coating was on my hood and front end and I pointed it out to my sales person where’s my PPF he couldn’t spot it either . Looked pretty silly the PPf was on the hood it blends no doubt . But I do see times where it looks a tad grey ish after washing or a rain in my eyes 95 % of the time impossible to tell the PPF is on my car .

I researched myself silly about how to protect my frozen paint reached out to paint people BMW many people on different sites I was surprised by the opinions and BMW always said soap and water . Water spots freaked me out at first they don’t now … soap and water handle them or worse bmw matte black cleaner but that’s a last resort . I saw what wax did to my paint color I tested product on my inside door first and still watched the best waxes change my color and was very disappointed in the products and in myself for not listening to BMW . The wax is completely off the car looks original and will stay that way . I don’t use a mitt I foam wash only and if I have to decrease my soap some and do it twice so be it I won’t wipe on my car if I don’t have to . That paint is to touchy I was not ready for how touchy the frozen black it was really kicking my ass at first . The frozen color changes colors on every light source and car angle it’s truly a special paint that hopefully I am finally learning how to manage I hope .

By the way, when I first purchased my Misano Blue G29 I was really tempted to put Xpel Stealth PPF on it and get the frozen look but all of my friends said that I would be doing my bright Misano Blue color a disservice, that a roadster in this color needs to pop and I listened to them. My installer did a fabulous job and you can't see the seams.

IMHO, the OP's Frozen PB color looks great and darker shades like this really lend themselves to the frozen look. 😎

Blue Frozen Paint

Your paint looks amazing great choice . I have Frozen black paint with PPF on the front hood and front end .
I tried Doctor Beasley’s … BMW products many more to me I pushed them all aside to keep it simple and the original paint color and finish.

1. I use Jimbos super soaper soap for foaming .
The whole treat the PPf the same

2. I use vinegar and water for water spots 40% Vineger in the mix . Less toxic and harmful and works like a champ . ( I used it all )

3. RYOBI hand held blower to dry it off

4. Once the water is almost gone I use Jimbo’s hard as shell spray ceramic . Why because long term ceramic scared me if wrong and stuides showed a spray is less intrusive to the Matt finish and there right . I love the hard as shell I use it on the rims also .

5. Wash the windows with Adam’s window cleaner micro fiber then Adam’s green glass towel by far the best application for my bmw windows I tried maybe 8 different window brands .

6. I ceramic spray every other wash

7. Use Jimbo’s formal dress on the tires

I feel I have my frozen paint under control for now but like my system

Get froze! As much as a nail biter it is to have this paint, the longer I own it the more I realize it's going to be tough to let it go.

Listen the PPF vs straight frozen paint is a tough call either choice is a 1000 % correct .

Learning to maintain and protect the frozen paint without altering the finish is hard and challenging . It was for me I had no idea to be fair . And only choosing PPF for my hood and front end and not the rest of the rest of car may come back to haunt me as I am sure there is a drunken biker or piece of metal planning to hit my frozen paint as I type … but I do know this of 5 months of intense efforts and learning .. and backing out of a apt to PPF the whole car truly . It’s not easy no choice is wrong as long as your trying.
I learned that I can maintain this car pending bad things hurting to my car and at that point I will have to PPF . Until then I enjoy the many shades of the paint in various lights … my was PPF not cheap and is not exactly the same as the frozen paint on the rest of the car and that’s ok .

For me
1. I contactless wash as much as possible I read most marks in black paint are caused by the owners I froze in my tracks.

2. I do not use bmw products no dr b s I am sorry nice people or anything chemicals I can’t do it they seemed to only make issues worse to me . Nothing crazy if I water marks now I use Vinegar 40 % and water sprayed on a micro fiber does the best cleaning hands down other chemicals smear around especially on my PPF … I spent time chasing chemicals all over my PPf no more … V and water on a towel best results

3. Jimbo’s super soaker soap last 8 washes never a contact wash needed true I love that . I tried foam with other soaps then use jimbos and always saw more dirt on the floor in the foam using jimbos even after using other soap before true story .

4. Protection Jimbos hard as shell spray … easy to apply his spray ceramic to the car and towel when drying … no shine just the natural look and protection I am not changing. Long term ceramic scared me to many tests showed it alters finish not worth the chance , long term people are human mistakes are human I am ok short term ceramic spray .it works

5. Plastic trim on the xm the piano finish… it felt like if I looked at that trim wrong I got swirl marks in that trim very much worried me very touchy trim … I used Jimbo’s hard as shell on the plastic black trim swirl marks gone and have never came back so thankful .

I love the pictures of the Matt finish and everyone’s passion it’s not easy to protect the frozen finish BMW never sat me down and said do this and to be fair I didn’t sit them down and say tell me what to do . But I learned from this site … Jimbo’s detailing kind enough to help me .. and trial and error . Good luck to all very much
