Carbon Roof
No carbon Roof??
Do you think it will be available on future model? 2026? I was speaking with my dealer and they don't know. I really like the carbon roof on my f90. I would hate to get my car only to find out it becomes available the following year. |

It depends on which car you are talking about. The G90 has a carbon roof if you choose the Carbon Package. It’s not the default or free anymore like previous.
On the other hand — G99 (touring) from what I read will not offer a carbon roof at all.

Yeah a LOT of the videos on this car mention that they either couldn't find someone to do that big of a sheet of carbon in the quantities needed or that it was prohibitively expensive.

Most likely they couldn’t find supplier to do it for the price they wanted. Not that no one can’t do it. Boing and Airbus have pieces way bigger that the roof of G99

For example, BMW needs to say “here is my production schedule, you need to have these pieces here at this time”. If those parts don’t make it on time you can cost BMW 10’s of millions of dollars by shutting down a production line or delaying production. BMW has to be absolutely certain that you can deliver the quantities needed, at the appropriate time, and meeting their quality. They often times require suppliers have more than one factory that makes a part or have contracts with multiple suppliers for that part in case something like a factory fire at a supplier were to happen. Apple learned this lesson the hard way with the screens on the iPhone 6. The screen was supposed to be sapphire, like a high-end watch face. It is basically indestructible and can only be scratched by diamond. They worked with a new company called GT Advanced who said they could make the screens. Well GT Advanced never successfully made enough. The sapphire was made in big chunks and then cut into thin pieces for the screen, but the big chunks kept shattering in the oven. Finally apple had to call Corning and say “hey, never mind. We need you to build us a gorilla glass display for our new phone”. |

Yes the Pano roof is standard. Was just saying I prefer it enough that I would pay for it if it wasn't standard equipment.
Carbon roofs are cool to look at when new but if you plan on keeping the car for long term its another thing you have to worry about (de laminating). Also not sure about the M5 but on my F80 M3 all carbon roofs didn't have the mounting points for a roof rack which severely limits the usability of the car if you are into outdoor sports (biking, kayaking, snowboarding etc...)
