Is winter weather the challenge or heat?

Cold/rain/wind. This time of year can get nasty. Like Monday and Tuesday this coming week are going to be rainy with high winds.

First time outside in 9 days. Chilly and windy, but still good to be outside again.

Got 20 in yesterday, heavy North winds slowed our pace.

Uncanny warm weather today. Windy, but it was out of the west, so tough in one direction and loads of fun in the other. Got 32 miles in. Might be my last outside ride for a while. Turning colder tomorrow.

Not much of a year for me, but got a few miles in here and there, including a few commutes. But barring the odd unseasonable weekend, I too am likely in for the winter.

I managed 150 miles on the trainer this week. Way too cold to ride outside. I'm shooting for 5200 miles on the year. I should make it barring any health issues.

****I ride Zwift a lot this time of year. It has been a great resource and helped my early season fitness tremendously.

Mid-50s here today, so I got out for 32 miles. Pretty windy, but mostly a crosswind.

Same here - didn't have a lot of time but got almost an hour of hills in. I'll take it!

Too cold and heavy damp here so the Carrera stays clean in the garage.

Just stumbled on this thread, been a road cyclist since 2014 (I"m 64 now). Great year for me, 7200+ miles 459k feet of climbing. I ride outside and on zwift (in the winter). My newest bike had for a year now a Gen 7 trek madone.

I have a friend who has a "tie-dye" Madone like that. Beautiful bike. 7200 miles is an impressive total. I'm closing in on my usual 5200 mile yearly goal. Just 76 miles to go.

****Wow! That's a really nice bike!

I still race road and MTB (Cat 2 road, Expert MTB), but am getting older now so doing more Masters racing. I still feel great, but just don't have the raw brutal speed I used to when younger and rely more on experience at the end of a race, hoping to get into a good break, or venture out on my own from the pack/break and try to Time Trial away and hold off the Peloton. I can still climb respectably well.

I ride Zwift a lot in the off season, and hit a milestone recently where I rode Zwift at least once per week for the past 52 weeks - even during the season.. Zwift has been a game changer for me as it gets cold here in the Winter and for a lean dude like me it just *sucks* knowing I'll be riding outside in the cold/wet/wind - but with Zwift I can get my training in and out of the way at home.

Some of the bikes, and my setup for Zwift.

Cheers fellow cyclists!

It's funny, when I was on FB in the trek riders group. The guy who actually painted my bike at trek and videoed it on instagram reached out to me. It was cool to watch him paint and also sign the frame. Unfortunately he's taken his account down so I can't access it anymore.

I've had that bike a bit over a year now. The ultegra di2 12 speed is brilliant

Zwift was a game changer I joined in 2017. At my advanced age, having to claw back to fitness after a winter of not riding was tough. Zwift allows me intensive workouts even when weather is awful.

I just splurged and picked up a 65" screen on sale to make it even more immersive.

One of my retired bikes is an older Cervelo R5 which was one of my first bikes and bought in 2014-15.

Finished my perhaps final ride for the year last weekend. A somewhat lazy, enjoyable scenic ride. Was hoping for a couple more outdoors, and a couple indoor Zwift rides too, but now I'm thinking rest up for 2025 (i.e., lazy).... we'll see.

I raced for a couple of years then switched to bis and tris, but it has been a few years and I'm fat and out of shape at the moment - still get a few miles in here and there but nothing like the mileage I was piling up in the '00s and early '10s.

Anyone else here ever qualify for the Club des Cinglés du Mont Ventoux? A buddy and I did that in 2006 when there were only 2-3 dozen American qualifiers. Good times.

I have a 43" 4K TV in front of my Kickr that's mounted on an InsideRide setup. Two fans keep me cool and provide the wind feel of riding. I like Fulgaz as I don't "train" per se and I don't care for the social aspects of Zwift. I find the 4K vids on Fulgaz to be more realistic. Plus Fulgaz is less expensive, which is perfect for me as I don't use half of what Zwift offers.

Next to my bike trainer is my Concept 2 rowing machine. It's also got a TV mounted in front of it that I use with EXR, which is sort of like Zwift except it's for rowers. I just wish I had room in my pain cave for a treadmill.
