Cost savings. BMW did as much as they could to keep the price of the M5 below $150k. If the G90 had all the options available that the F90 had, then it would have been $175k.

This is from the i5 m60i though, which is $30k cheaper… me still thinks weight related as the steel housing and the led speaker plus the soft close mechanism weighed too much

Has anyone confirmed the M5 doesnt have lit speakers? Also is this market specific?

they've got the continuum cone midrange in this thing at least (silver mesh), may not be the diamond system but there's quality parts in it still. They use the same stuff in their loudspeakers that cost more per tower then the whole diamond system in any BMW.

I don't think weight was a consideration for the M5. It's already more than 1000 lbs heavier than the prior gen, I don't think a few LED lights on speakers was going to tip the scales in an appreciable way at that point.
I still believe the de-contenting of the M5 was done for cost savings. |

I dont think it comes from the factory like that. I think BMW chose to cover the speaker in fabric because it hits the side of your knee. I preferre the lights in the speaker and when my G90 arrives, I will be intrested in doing this mod.
