Questions: G90 compared to XM?
For those who have driven both, owned previously, or currently own one or both a G90 and an XM how do they compare ?
Before I get blasted for comparing, let me be very clear I have zero intention of ever purchasing an XM. Ever. I find them hideous and just a mistake by BMW. However the drivetrain being very similar to G90 brings me to this thread. I've recently been driving an XM for about a week. The wife's G63 AMG is getting some maintenance and warranty work done on it, so I opted to rent an XM off Turo for a week. Just for fun. I have to say, and I want to give it a chance, but I do not like the XM at all. I dont like the way it drives. It doesn't feel like it holds a candle to my F90 and G63. and I dont mean from a performance perspective, but to a certain degree performance is a factor also. It's all the intangibles that give a fun/pleasurable driving experience. The sound of the car is not good in my opinion, however, im also only on the inside of it, could be better outside. the sound of the car sounds cheap. If that makes sense? Lawn mower-ish almost. Hard to explain but it's not pleasing. The interior while being very cool and having some neat tech also to me feels like a down grade to a degree. Hard to explain. Everything seems a little thinner almost, like just not as solidly built as my f90. There are some things I definitely do not like about the electric aspect of the XM. and hoping it feels better in the G90. It feels a little clunky at times, big delay on launch control, and just in general takes some getting used to from a full ICE car. Hard to explain. I dont know if this XM has the top of the line sound system or even what is what. But im not impressed with it. It is Bowers and Wilkins, but the F90 B&W sounds much richer to me. This is not the label red XM, so it's down on power, and I know is heavier than the G90. It feels solid-ish, and quick-ish for the size and what it is, but definitely would not say it feels fast, it "feels" similar in terms of acceleration as the G63, which is fine for what it is, and the XM is fine for what it is. Im just wondering how it feels compared to a G90. So just wondering for anyone who has owned or driven both if this XM experience is anything like the new G90 experience, I may not be a bmw owner after my F90 comp. I want to love the G90, and I do love it at some times, and somethings about it, but I havent driven one yet, and have reservations, oddly enough, the reservations dont really include the weight of it. for me its other things about it. But I will still reserve judgement until I can spend some time with the G90, im just hoping it's better than the XM. I know they aren't comparable from a performance perspective, completely different cars. Neither is the G63 AMG vs my F90, but I really enjoy driving the G63 for what it is, and feels. very well built and high quality, as would be expected, but my f90 to me has the same attributes the G63 does in terms of "quality". The XM definitely does not have those same attributes in my opinion, and Im just hoping the G90 experience will be closer to the f90, and g63, rather than the XM. Xm feels like an suv, that’s all. And infact it feels closer to previous gen m5 and x5/6m in terms of ride quality and tech.

There was a good comparison a few weeks ago vs a Label, so maybe not exactly what you’re looking for, but might be helpful: https://g90.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...2147566&page=4

As a current XM driver and someone that has driven the G90, had both the G80 and F90...
Doesn't compare apples to oranges. It's a similar powertain but they feel different. I've driven the label and they all feel different. Suspension, seating, steering feel, exhaust is 100% different. Only thing that is familiar is the operating system. Stereo is all subjective based upon your hearing and Eq. I haven't tested the B&W in the 5. Good to know and kind of the information I was after. Im in no way comparing the cars in terms of which one to buy. It's more, I haven't had a chance to drive a G90 yet, and wanted some feed back if I should even waste my time. |
