[Beast M5]

For owners of the new m5, it’s winter time, are you still running with your summers or have you swapped out with winters or all seasons?
This is one thing I am hesitant with buying the m5, I’m just too lazy to even be bothered to swap out tires in winter times..

Depends on where you live. I’m in NJ and we haven’t had measurable snow and temps have barely hit freezing in two years. I did have winters on my F90 and the car was a tank in the snow.
I’m opting not to this time around and luckily have a truck if it actually gets cold and/or snows.
For winters, Pirelli Sottozero 3 were my go to for both the f90 and the rs6 and it performed well.

I looked at options and the only availabke is pirelli scorpions at stock
Other options like sottozero or michelin alpine not available
I had sottozeros on my m8 in new york for 3 year and were amazing in the winter

I had Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3 Performance Winter Tires on my F90 M5C.

I hope the F90 and G90 use the same size and I was going to put them on my G90 after I see the first flake fall.

Just a heads up, it looks like the Scorpion winters for the front come in a load rating of 104 and 108 XL. The stock tire are HL 111’s. The HL means “high load” which is in excess of normal XL tires.

A 108 load rating is about 90% of the load rating of the factory tire

A 104 load rating is about 80% of the standard load rating.

I would make sure you are at least getting the 108XL rated tire, this is still under the factory rating, but better than the 104 option. 104 is WAYYY too light for this car.

I still bought the scorpions with the below ratings 108 and 107 find below
Also the original has 111 front and 110 back
I should fine given those tires are for bmw suvs with almost the same weight and i usually drive alone (90% of time) or my wife and 1 baby with not a lot of luggage

I had michellin pilot sport all season on my M8
They are ok if you dont like to change tires every season
Will i do it again?! No
They make the car feel different i can not explain it but it is not the same as summer or even winter performance tires
The traction is good and they do the job but you feel that the car handles differently
And less enjoyable to drive
I am not sure if they were available for the g90 m5 tire specs (last i checked they were not)

Wow, so this car is so fat there aren't suitable tires for it for the winter?

The 108’s in the front and 107’s in the rear are probably OK. But you just need to make sure you’re getting a tire with an appropriate load rating, not just the same size as factory.

Does anyone know the factory recommended psi?

The dealer I've spoken to gave me two options

Pirelli Scorpion $2,000
Front 285/40/20
Rear 295/35/21

or
BMW Tire & Wheel Package $4,700
Black 20" wheel & Michelin Alpine 5

Honestly, if I can find an all season tire I wouldn't have to change out at all I'd go with that.

Thoughts on options above or any other suggestions?

Personally, I have never been a fan of all season tires. In my experience you end up with a tire that is a mediocre summer tire and a mediocre winter tire. You’re much better off swapping dedicated summer and winter tire.
