Our town had a PT officer that I can't remember the name of right now, but he lived in a cheap apartment over a store on Main Street and only worked weekends. The dude was so ruthless that he once gave snow ordinance tickets to old ladies for parking outside of a church on Easter Sunday...on a sunny 50F degree spring morning a day before the snow ordinance ended for the winter! I actually heard two other officers talking about it in disbelief the day after.....
I don't think Cavanaugh was as ruthless as the LEOs you describe. He was relentless but as far as I know, all of his tickets were legit. He just followed the letter of the law and rarely issued warnings. He was tough, but I have to say I think the town was safer because of it.

Drone craziness here for the past month. They’re lying to us. There’s no way they don’t know the origin. Obviously a government thing they are trying to hide. If it was a bad actor we would have shot them down. It’s crazy. They are hovering every night.

It’s scary the number of unidentified craft in the skies.

A drone flew over my house late yesterday afternoon, around sunset. Was the size of a very small airplane, maybe 75%ish the size of a Piper Cub. Looked like it was under 1K feet and headed towards Palomar airport.

Well, we had a motorcycle officer back then named Cavanaugh who was feared by ever single kid either driving, walking, or riding. He had no heart and a great big ticket book. He was a legend in his own time. At the time, we all sort of hated him because it was the thing to do. But looking back on it now, Cavanaugh's presence in our little town made me a better driver. I was always fearful that I would be caught doing something ticket-worthy. So, when I started driving I did not-kid-like things like using turn signals, driving the speed limit, and stopping fully at stop signs. Even though I never got a ticket from this motorcycle cop legend, he made me a better driver. If I could find him today, I'd say "thank you"!

There is a recent post on Facebook asking if anybody remembered this guy. There were many responses. Image being a LEO and having people talk about you 60 years later!

If you want a little entertainment, check out this link to the conversation about him, starting with "He'd ticket his grandmother"!!

The town I grew up in had its own version of an Officer Cavanaugh. I no longer remember the officer's name but he was a terror with a ticket book.

Rumor was while on duty he was involved in a minor accident and gave himself a ticket.

Sounds like an ethical guy ! We could sure use a huge dose of ethics these days.

If a back-seat (driver) is a witness to a collision, and he is in the back seat because he's above the legal limit to sit in the driver's seat, is he still a credible witness?

Asking for a friend. . .

No, not usually. The overwhelming consensus is the passengers will have a bias towards the driver and other occupants in the vehicle. Occasionally we will take statements however.

How do the DV laws apply in polyamorous living situations? Is every single occupant/resident considered a romantic partner or a roommate when 7 people live together and claim that they are all in a polyamorous relationship?

Also, do the police see frequent DV calls for people in these relationships?????

The way we establish the type of relationship is based on how the people describe their involvements. As long as there is/was a romantic involvement (….however minimal), that qualities the assault as a DV. We see the DV stuff daily, but whether or not it’s described as “polyamorous” or not in the traditional sense really depends. We don’t really see it so much here, but I’m sure in Utah, Nevada, and other areas where that is more openly common, they see it more.
