I5 M60 to M5

Did anyone that has or has driven i5 m60 test drive the new m5? Im sure its way better but curious to hear your thoughts . I get that i5 is electric but it feels like a beast

If its like other m lites compared to full M's they will feel nothing alike even if performance figures are similar on paper. Hard to explain but once you get behind the wheel you just know its a M.

I've test driven the i5M60 and it can't compare in handling compared to M cars, same as every other M lites, they fall apart compared to M cars on the chassis / suspension when thrown in a corner.

The i5M60 i tested did not have adaptive suspension for whatever reason and had a sick (i mean literally you can get sick) amount of roll, lateral and longitudinal. Utter disappointment for me at the time and i was very worried the M5 would be similar but thank god no, very good surprise the M5 in sport mode will stay pretty flat and still feel lively despite of the weight, which isn't an issue on the road unless you're pushing it to the limit, and that limit is quite far.

I would like to know the 50-70 time difference between the two. Does the G90 give you the instant torque feel that the i5M60 does???

I have a i5 m60 in the family which I get to drive often and it’s a world of a difference. M60 not a M car at all in terms of driving dynamics. It’s fast and maybe even faster in some roll race scenarios but not fun to drive.

It's interesting that the i5 M60 is faster to 0-60 than the M5.

I5 M60 beaten off the line by a RWD M4 so no, it’s not faster than a M5 wathever the sprint. (0-60 in 3.7)

I don't know that you can compare the previous M-Lites to the M versions and assume with the added weight that the EV cars are going to act the same way in terms of M60 vs G90.

As also mentioned, having an M60 with the adaptive handling or DHP or whatever they call it will also have an effect...

Point is, I'd bet the difference is probably smaller than it's ever been between the i5 M60 and M5....but that doesn't mean there still might not be a difference. I'm assuming by the replies that no one here has actually test driven BOTH the G90 and M60, yet...

The M60 has been tested at 3.3......

I'd bet the M5 is 3.1 or so.

I test drove both, and since then i also own the G90. If anything driving the M60 made me delay my G90 order since i was so disappointed with its handling i was afraid the G90 would be similar i stoped considering it. Then some press journalist said it was nothing like the M60 or the XM so i took a gamble and placed the order.

The proper comparison is between G60 i5 M60 with DHP and G90. If the M60 doesn’t have DHP, well of course the handling is in the same league. There’s always a lot of posturing on this board against the M60, either because it is an EV, or because so-called test drives were with cars not equipped with DHP.

As I recall the M60 weighs 200 lbs less than the G90, so hopefully comments about how the EV is “too heavy” to handle properly compared to the M5 will finally stop.

I do think that the M60 should come with DHP standard to wear the M-sport badge, otherwise in my opinion from driving it with and without, it should not have the badge without the DHP. On full-on M cars, you don’t have to option the M suspension.

This is a BMW technician's comment on i5 vs m5: Haven’t driven one on track, only the street. M5 handles shockingly well for the weight. It really hides it well, and it’s very quick. Far better than the i5 m60. However you definitely sacrifice ride quality. Unfortunately, the only G90 I dealt with was a piece of shit. Traded in after 200 miles. Differential dumping fluid from an axle seal, injector failed etc. I’m scared to see how unreliable these things are over time
