G90 M3 VS G80 M3 conundrum

***Title Correction G90 m5 vs G80 M3***Hey all so i picked up mu G80 M3 comp last week when i ordered it 6 months ago there was no G90 M5 too sit and experience. When picking it up my G80 they had one in the showroom and i feel in love with it. Its bigger which i like being 6"3 also loved the interior. So my question is being the G90 is much heavier but does have significantly more power. But from what im seeing it not much faster than a G80. AutoTopNL did a 100-200 G90 did a 7:13 M4 G82 did 7:79. So for $36,000 more is it really worth it. Or is autotop nl did something wrong. I havent been able to find a roll or drags of g90 vs g80/82

Thanks love you all

For having a G80 and G81 before and now a G90, here is my pros and cons list :

Pros
- Faster acceleration anytime because of instant EV torque
- S68 has actual low rpm torque even withou the EV, S58 needs really some revs to start pulling.
- More comfortable
- Additional comfort things the 5 platform brings (can open the boot with the foot sensor again yay, 4 zones climate, ventilated seat, comfort entry / exit)
- Temperature pre conditioning remotely
- More space
- Better iDrive
- fuel consumption for daily use (when driving normally in commute)
- better manoeuvrability due to 4 wheel steering.

Cons
- Too big / too high
- seating position is quite high
- 10 step traction control is gone !!!!
- Interior cabin quality is a step down, too much glossy piano black plastic on center controls, no carbon on the steering with fake buttons, cheap buttons for the window / mirrors control
- even less shortcuts, distance control for ACC is no longer on the steering but buried in idrive, panorama front camera is hidding in parking menu and no longer remembers activation points (probably a bug)
- No gear lever
- No laser headlights, and lights no longer follow steering direction, but kind of spread wide all the time.
- No carbon bucket seats
- Less cabin storage compartments, no trunk side storage nets / underfloor.
- less sporty handling

It still handles very well and like an M i'd say. Unless you're driving like a morron on public roads you won't hit the grip limit nor feel the additional weight, the front end is still very incisive and light similar to G80.

thank you for the reply lots of helpful info, I feel in lve with the G90 sitting inside of it. Too me its perfect for my body type. Is it worth the significant extra money? And speed wise what about top end does it feel quite a bit faster?

Value will depend where you are located. Where i am the G90 was significantly cheaper (25k) than my G81 so it is worth it. Then it depends what you want the car to be and it's main usage... As a daily and occasional spirited drive sports car i'd say the G90, for the special weekend car most likely the G80/G87 is better

G90 is faster and looks cooler.. no comparison if you don’t mind the extra $….

Sounds like you like the G90 more so I'd say move up into one unless the price difference scares your account but I'd hope that buying a well optioned G80 means that isn't a issue, so just get what you want.

Personally I'm really looking forward to having that stump pulling torque down low, the S58 is a magnificent engine but it doesn't really wake up until ~3k rpm, the G90 is basically always awake with the electric torque fill + torquey S68.

I’m surprised there hasn’t been more talk on here regarding G80 vs G90. I am in a similar boat comparing the two. Currently drive a 6MT G80 that I custom ordered SSG on Fiona Red, vorsteiner grill, MP HAS, wheel spacers, PPF/ceramic, ARM intake. I really do love this car. I’ve driven manuals my whole life, so letting it go is going to be difficult given that it is a last of its kind. Unfortunately, I do feel the base model is a bit underpowered. I had an M4 comp convertible before, which felt so much more alive than the de-tuned base model. I have considered tuning my car, but would prefer to retain warranty, and it already has significant traction issues in 1st-2nd.

Then comes the G90.. with my first kid on the way, I figured some extra space would be nice, and a 727hp wagon would be the ultimate dad-mobile. Initial pictures that came out didn’t wow me, and, of course, all the discussion regarding the weight. I had driven the F90 on several occasions and always found it a bit boring.. but maybe that is just me. I was concerned that an even heavier version would be similar, if not worse. My local dealer had a frozen dark grey on Kylami Orange available, so I went in to see it and was very impressed.
In person, the car has a serious exterior presence. You can tell it is an M car and not just a 5 series sedan (something that bothered me with the looks of the understated F90). Front end G90 wins, back end G80 wins for me.
Interior was nice, but I did expect it to be more luxurious given the price of the vehicle. The seats were comfortable (probably about the same as the standard seats in the G80), but I could not figure out how to extend the legs of the seat (I am a tall guy), which apparently you can do in iDrive. Personally, I think the full leather on my G80 looks/feels nicer than the synthetic stuff they are using on the G90. I like the light bar that goes across the car, but can see how some don’t. Interior I’ll give it a wash between the two (though the price difference makes this a tough pill to swallow).
Driving: Went for a short test drive, and it really started to make me think about buying this car. The throttle response and instant torque is addicting. In sports plus , the car was begging to be pushed. I could not feel how heavy the car was in the least bit. I am sure on track you could, but for daily street driving, the weight is a total non-issue. It’s never going to be as nimble as the G80, but I am not sure I’ll ever miss driving the G80 aside from rowing my own gears. G90 wins here for me.
I now have an M5 touring on order, which should be here within 5-6 months. Before seeing/driving the G90, I was doubting I would go through with the purchase, but am now leaning towards going for it. Pics of both cars below.
