M5 Touring vs. E63 S Wagon
I've been lurking for awhile as I've been pretty certain the G99 would be my next car since it seems MB is dropping the E63. I like the looks of the G99 and don't really care about the weight since I have no plans to track the car and it will be my mostly daily driver, unless the weather is really crappy.
Does anyone have any real experience with both of the cars? After seeing close ups of the interior of the G99, it looks pretty cheap compared to my E63 in some areas. The switch gear, some of the buttons, etc. looks like cheap plastic. I don't think the care will be much of a performance upgrade, may even be a touch slower. I don't mind it so much, never really get to the limits, at least not for long. I don't want the interior to feel like a down grade though. Yes, I should go check one out for myself. I don't plan on purchasing until model year 2026 though so haven't been in a rush. My car is a 2019 so getting a little up there but honestly drives and pretty much feels just as nice as the day I got it. Although the exterior has always been a bit on the "plain" side (especially the rear half), the interior is still fantastic but the tech feels a little aged. |

I have experience with the sedan versions of both; had a 2018 e63s and currently have a g90 sedan. They are both awesome machines. Not sure I have much to offer beyond that. My buddy still has his e63 wagon for daily duty; looks and sounds great.
Like you said, going to have to check them both out and see which you prefer driving, looking at, and having around. Should be a fun process. |

Do you feel the interior was a downgrade? I'm pretty sure I will have no issue with the power and the way it drives. The E63s has a pretty stiff suspension even in comfort mode, doubt the G99 would be any stiffer. That is my only real complaint and it is only an issue on crappy roads...which we unfortunately have a lot of here.

I had a 2015 E63 AMG S wagon and now have had my M5 Touring for about 3 weeks. Still in break in but think I can provide some perspective. Keep in mind my E63 was previous gen.
The M5 feels significantly lighter to me. I know it’s not, but it handles better and flatter than the E63. Also much quieter in normal operation. It’s also noticeably quicker. I don’t think the interior of the M is a downgrade because the technology is so good. I know some don’t like the screens but I find them to work really, really well. I think materials overall on the Mercedes were better. I mean, the Mercedes had massage seats! I think it’s an overall upgrade, but the E63 had its charms. That 5.5L was special. |

The interiors of the doors are the area where BMW can improve the most. The materials used there are not top tier. Doesn’t bother me, though. The rest of the cabin experience I really enjoy. |

I owned a E 63 S AMG W213 Sedan. It is a very different animal to the G90 M5. In fact its a very different animal to the M5 F90 as well. The E 63 S W213 is a wild hot rod (loud V8, crazy harsh shifts, harsh ride) but it had a ton of character.
If you want character and something wild, don't bother with the G90. If you want an all rounder, then yes the G90 is considerably better, although a downgrade in terms of materials and overall perception of quality. I also don't see the tech as that much of an upgrade (between the F90/W213 to the G90). Buying it purely for tech, is something I would not recommend. Where the G90 shines, its probably the most well rounded sports sedan ever made. Its incredibly comfortable when you don't want to play, full of gyzmos and gadgets, its very fast, has a lot less lag, and its always there for you. But as a downside, its very heavy and it feels it in comparison to the F90/W213. Its an amazing piece of kit though. |
