leaning more towards to a turbo e36M as my DD now. prices on them out there are just too hard to pass up. You can get one for the cost of all the mods on them added up, its ridiculous.

That's certainly the more fiscal way to go. The E36M is also a much better DD than the E30M. The E30M is and will only get to be more of a cult classic. $17,000 for a good conditioned one now, before any engine swap. That price will just keep getting higher. E36's are plentiful enough that they can be had for $6-8,000 now.

E30M = legend.
E36M = fun car.

Don't want to jack your thread, but I've been toying the idea of getting a Porsche 951 944 Turbo. Is that an option for you? They're not as plentiful as e36 m3, but they're very fast with a few mods and handling is top notch.

keep in mind that e30 rear suspension makes it pretty hairy in the wet w/extra power.

have not looked into those at all, how are those with maintenance compared to the e36's?

Porsche and M parts are all very pricey. Most maintenance can be DIY. These cars are easier to work on than our e9x.....no freaking sensor on every switch or bulbs. But since it's turbo it will require more maintenance than an N/A M3 motor.
