Anyone using Canon's new 18-200mm?
Just wondering if anyone has picked this up yet. How bad is the gravity zoom? Is the lack of USM an issue? I'm debating just sticking with my 17-85 IS as a travel lens until the price drops on the 18-200 unless it's fairly good.

Ive given it a try on a 40D and have to say, its far better than Sigma's 18-200 OS. USM is was not an issue but I suppose on what you need to shoot.

Here...this guy has a nice write up on most of Canon lenses. He also has a few sample pics.
http://www.the-digital-picture.com/ 18-200mm's review is here... http://www.the-digital-picture.com/R...ns-Review.aspx and you should be able to see the "Sample Pictures" link to the right of the main lens pic. |

My Dad's trying to sell the lense... mint condition... used only once and listed on craigslist for months and he only got one reply!!! It's not a L lense... its results are about same or a little better than a Canon G series in photo quality results. A very decent and light lense which is good for travelling if you cannot afford a L lense OR you hate the weight or attention of the L lense.

main list with links - canon photography-on-the.net it also depends on what you are shooting and what other lenses you have in the bag, not to mention what price range you are looking for? if you have access to the exif data easily, zoombrowser has some, and so does dpp i think, look to see what focal range you are mostly shooting in. i was just in thailand took close to 1200 pics over 10 days. i used the 17-55 f/2.8 IS for about 900 or so of them. granted i lugged around a 70-200mm as well, and didnt use it that much, but thats because i know for most of what im shooting its either 17-24ish or 40-55mm as a walk around lens.
