Audi E-Tron Concept - A Sexy E-car?

Quote:
Audi’s latest e-tron concept

January 13, 2010 by Adam Marshall

Audi unveiled its latest e-tron concept car at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The e-tron is a low slung two door sports car powered by a pair of electric motors.

The concept car looks almost production ready and follows a series of earlier show cars that looked more like small Audi R8s. This latest version has its own design language, a muscular two seat Audi.

Weighing 1350 kg and powered by two mid mounted electric motors with a combined output of 152kW. Having a good power to weight ratio allows the car to sprint to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds.

According to Audi its use of efficient batteries and electronics gives the car a range of 250 km.

E-tron’s low weight comes from the Audi Space Frame designed aluminium structure. All the “add on” parts like doors, bonnet, roof and front guards are made of fibre-reinforced plastic to save on weight.

Featuring a production ready interior with simple controls and a revised MMI scroll pad with a touch sensitive surface on the steering wheel. A smart phone is able to be inserted into a slot allowing the audio and video functions of the phone to be accessed by the car.
I like it!
It has some sections that flow a little weirdly but if this is the direction audi is heading, bring it on. I think the next TT might deff get a few design cues from this car.

Good to see a green car not turn out looking like a slug or the prius.

It is supposedly confirmed the TT wont be made again. Maybe this will mean an R4 based on this concept. I think it will be GREAT. Looks good so far.

For those that hadn't noticed this e-tron is solely rwd with the battery packs mid mounted where the engine would sit, giving it a 40/60 weight distribution. If it possible that Audi are considering switching all future sportscars to a mid-engined configration and switching from quattro to rwd?

Or is it likely that what the R4 (the next TT replacement) will remain awd but that only the front axle will be electric powered and the engine sole powering the rear?
