Smile Opinions on 335i vert?

I've been browsing around the auto trader listings in my area, and see convertibles going for 45 to 50k. My sister is intent on getting the 335i, specifically the convertible. I'd like to offer her some advice. Honestly, I think the coupe is a better choice, less weight, and it looks more streamlined from the rear. Plus, it looks as if the convertible hardtop doesn't seem too reliable? Then again who am I to say, that's why I came here.

So.. what do you guys think?

The convertible tops are reliable. I actually prefer the look of the E93 Convertible to the E92 coupe, so that's subjective. And if you sister wants a vert then let her have a vert! Coupe's are dreary being enclosed all day. If I didn't ride motorcycles I would be driving a convertible.

The extra weight of the hard top does sap out the acceleration in the 'vert as compared to the coupe. The top is reliable, nothing wrong with it - just noises, but then you'll be told by the dealer that since it is a floating roof, noises are normal. My front windows always rattled - and a few people have complained of a buffeting/resonating noise from the rear of the car at 50-60mph.

The coupe does look better compared to the vert with the top closed. But then the top drops, on a nice sunny day - its heaven. Nothing beats that look.

Had my Vert for almost a year. LUV it . The best of two worlds. Can't thank enough my wife and daughter convincing me to get it since I wanted a coupe.

Yes there is no doubt weight difference and you do feel it when you drive Vert compare to E90 or E92. It feels heavier and less agile. However is she buying a car to race with or cruise/drive around the city ? Even with almost 400lbs additional weight 335i Vert has more than enough peppiness in it. And if you add JB3 with DCI performance tune it'll be more than enough to keep her happy when she puts pedal to the metal.

Also there is nothing like taking it for a test drive. Take her to BWM dealership and take Coupe and Vert for a test drive. Ideally if she can wait until late spring so you can test drive Vert both with roof up and down.

One recommendation since she's looking to purchase a pre-owned BMW, if she does decide to go with Vert, before purchasing it take it to Touch-less car wash to make sure there are no defects and roof doesn't leak.

EDIT: after reading one of the posts above. Don't worry about external noise because of hard top. I certainly didn't notice it, and I spend quite a bit of time on hands free phone driving @ 140-150...

Good luck
