Front = perfect
Rear = perfect But what the hell is up with the roofline. The car looks tall with that banana shaped roofline. Just like the current CLS. It's a shame because the CLS has great features and so does this concept, but that banana shape is just fugly.

The roofline is a disaster, it throws off the proportions. Also, the overhangs come off as too short and stubby. I hope the production version only takes slight elements from this. The overall shape is reminiscent of a Passat CC, which ironically is reminiscent of the current CLS.

I'm mixed about it.
The headlights look too small for the entire body, making it look heavier than it should. I also think many of the styling details are overwrought. In isolation they make sense, but it's a lot going on all at once. I think they executed the split character line a little poorly. It looks a little cheap, not very dynamic, and I think they should've increased the length and curvature of the rear line. That little brake duct beneath the rear door also looks like an afterthought and creates more unnecessary clutter. In regards to the silhouette, I think the roofline is fine, but the hood shape is terrible. It might be more aerodynamic to have an almost Civic-like continuous arc from hood to A-pillar to windshield, but it shortens the hood too much imo. I think it should've planed out before it reached the A-pillar. I'm digging the head-on front/rear views though.

Although the driveline will be superior AMG to AMG, I'd rather have a 2006 first gen CLS than whatever that is...IMO the 2005-2006s were some of the most timelessly designed MBs ever. Not great driver's cars, far too heavy and just not built for the task, but great for covering miles quickly.
For some reason the word "eco-friendly" comes to mind looking at this car...That's not a term I want to see used anywhere near a MB/AMG, M vehicle, etc. |
