... isn't it easier to just order the whole car from BMW? Lets say a stripped 5 series?

They said that using off the line cars and then putting all the police upgrades in them like doubles the cost. So the police would end up putting like $20k to $30k in macho cop accessories on that stripped 5 which would not be necessary on this car since it is purpose-built to be a police mobile.

I was checking out the website and they're bragging about 250,000 mile service life. I wonder if the 35d engine has uprated internals or more durable turbos? Anyways, I welcome the large increase in technicians trained to work on our d motors.

Have you ever tried to get puke out of cloth seats? I bet the car has a floor drain too.

Went thru the site and it seems they have a buy-back policy to keep those cars from entering the civilians market.
On bigger cities like New York, they will buy them back earlier to recondition them and sell it to a smaller town that can't affort the pricing brand new.

Lots of good ideas, let's see if they'll hit production.

I wonder if that is the design life of the chassis and the interior...and not the drivetrain.

All I care about is:
1) The cars will be easier to identify than crown vics. or impalas
2) They will be slower than my 1...

all sounds good to me!!
AND BMW gets the contract

I hate it when I THINK there is a cop ahead in an un-marked charger, only to find out its just a super base model with dark windows.
It wont matter soon USA going to be like much of Europe speed cameras everywhere cancel the need for a car that stands out and is easy to spot.

Yes the youtube video mentions that there is indeed a floor drain, and the rear compartment is completely separated from the front.

Currently when someone pukes in the rear seat of a cop car, the mess will always end up on the officer shoes after the first stop. With this new design the officer shoes will stay clean. :-)
