stepson had an encounter with a flatbed trailer - rear drivers door
Trip to austin - Maxima in the right lane - driver of truck ('18wheeler') - but I think it was a truck/flatbed, came over into his lane.
Could have been a lot worse - if they had not got separated when they did I think it would have just started ripping pieces off and he would have probably lost control and headed into the ditch...

Is that from the wheel? Holy crap... that could have been so much worse.
Question though: Was your step-son passing on the right when this happened? Illegal... but unfortuatnly sometimes a necessity here in the states where people have absolutly NO highway manners at all. I've been in a car where we were litterally run off of the road by a truck driver who aparantly didn't see us there as he was getting into the passing lane (where we were). Accidents do happen, but I see truckers on the phone/litterally reading the newspaper, etc. while driving. I'm sure it's a borring ass job, but with the amount of damage that can be done they need to be held to a MUCH higher standard when it comes to driving. |

Number 1 thing to know about 18-wheelers....put the pedal to the floor when passing. ALWAYS!
I've done this around cops on numerous occassions. I drop back to speed after I pass. I see too many morons hanging around their blind spots. |

true as well, one could say the same thing about motorcycles, cars, etc too though. the car going 100 mph attracts a lot more attention than one guy from a group of semis reading the paper.
to iterate though, glad to hear your stepson is alright, just wish in general people knew how to freaking drive...no matter what they're driving/riding |

ouch! at least he's alright, could have been a lot worse. i almost had an 18 wheeler rear end me in traffic on the freeway today. it was a couple inches away from hitting my bumper, luckily it switched into the other lane.
