Prosecutor won't resign over lewd texts to 'hot' crime victim

A county prosecutor in Wisconsin has rebuffed calls to resign following revelations he sent a crime victim 30 racy text messages that among other things referred to her as a “tall, young, hot nymph.”

The criticism was leveled at Calumet County District Attorney Ken Kratz, who pledged on Friday to seek individual psychotherapy for the “issue,” but said he had no plans to step down. On Monday, he said he'd go on medical leave and was also hiring an attorney to fight a move to force him from office.

“He's the first to admit this was quite a mistake, but it shouldn't really define his career,” (yeah, well good luck with that bud) attorney Robert J. Craanen, told the Associated Press. “And he's been a great DA.”

Kratz, 50, began sending the sext messages to the then 25-year-old Stephanie Van Groll just minutes after he met her last year to discuss charges filed against her boyfriend for nearly strangling her to death.

“I'm the attorney,” he wrote in one text. “I have the $350,000 house. I have the six-figure career. You may be the tall, young, hot nymph, but I am the prize.” In other messages, he asked if she was “the kind of girl that likes secret contact with an older married elected DA,” and questioned whether her low self-esteem was to blame for her lack of interest in him.

A second woman has now come forward and accused Kratz of inviting her to a woman's autopsy “provided I would be his girlfriend and would wear high heels and a skirt.” ®

After seeing a senior cancer researcher at a private company lose his $500,000/year job on "To Catch a Predator", this doesn't surprise me very much.

I think it all comes down to the insecurity of the perp. Think about it. If you're truely confident enough in yourself, your $350,000 house, your six figure job, etc, etc, do you really need to flaunt it? If you're secure in yourself you don't have to out that stuff because it's irrelevent. People will be attracted to you because of who you are, not what you have. That's an attraction to your posessions, not you.

Since when is a $350,000 something to brag about? I mean, sure, be proud of your accomplishments, but $350k home is far from warranting condescension or elitism (not that anything warrants it, but you know what I mean and I can't think of the word I'm looking for there)

LOL i was thinking the same thing. Maybe they meant 3.5 Mil. Even in the backwoods 350K doesn't sound like a lot; especially for his 6 figure salary. It's like bragging about having an Accord premium edition.

No not exactly. But the point is one is in the business of enforcing the law. Not taking advantage of the information they have access to. At a minimum, that increases the severity of the impropriety by one grade.
