All that black flash trim with the winglets and those multi spoke wheels easily put it into the boy racer window.
Needs to be plainer and anyone remember silver 5 spoke wheels..

Probably stated many times in this 100+ page thread, but as a Toyota guy, I'll say it: sorely disappointed that the new Supra is not a Toyota product. A truly bizarre choice of "partnership" for Toyota for such a legendary car, which I promise will be reflected in the durability and depreciation years down the road...

I miss my 1993 6-speed TT....

I completely agree. I'm not as invested as you are from a brand loyalty perspective; however, I believe the BMW partnership was a mistake for this car. The Supra should've been a 100% Toyota product. The enthusiast and purist in me feels like the reincarnated Supra is a diluted offering.

It probably would have been a worse car if Toyota made it. It would have cost a lot more for similar performance because Toyota can't/won't build anything that's not profitable. Look how expensive the GR Corolla is for what's a $20k Corolla with an open deck 3 cylinder engine with no forged parts and the only part on it special is the ball bearing turbocharger. The AWD system is cheap system used by the old Matrix/Vibe that wasn't intended for sports car usage hence all the overheating issues. They certainly wouldn't be able to get away with that kind of cost cutting on a Supra and the reality is that if Toyota built their own Supra it would be a six figure car that likely wouldn't outperform the current Supra. I think people should be happy that the current Supra exists as it's a great performing car that look like a proper sports car.

Honestly you can't really defend this without being a Toyota fan boy. The Supra is no doubt iconic and was for sure ahead of it's time but it's still a Toyota. Go compare a BMW from 1993 and a Toyota from 1993 and tell me which one has better quality of materials, build quality, etc.

I don't see anyone making the argument that the Mclaren F1 isn't a real Mclaren because BMW built the engine.

IMO BMW is the best thing that happened to Toyota. If they built the car it would look like something a sorority girl would drive and make like 200 hp

Either this or they just would have used an existing lexus engine.

Not at all; actually, never been a fanboy of any brand, but there are some specific products that I like. You nailed it perfectly: it was still a Toyota, which is a pretty reasonable expectation when buyers are looking at a Toyota-branded vehicle. I appreciate that globalization has touched every aspect of the car world, from concept and design to materials and assembly, but there are still certain generalizations we all make based on experience. And the experience I've gained from being privileged enough to own a diverse stable of over 40 cars in the past 25 years that's relevant to this discussion: practically all the "high end" German cars I had were absolute nightmares to own outside of a warranty (and ALL were low-mileage, well-maintained cars with records), and practically all the Toyotas I've had have been reliable and great investments (and most of these were NOT low-mileage or with records). This is directly reflected in the depreciation for each car over the years.

Bottom line: When I shop for a Toyota, I expect reliability. When I shop for a BMW, I expect exclusivity. I don't want a BMW that identifies as a Toyota when I'm shopping for a Toyota. Just my 2 cents.

Lmao at the exclusive BMW shopping experience
Where the M brand is so diluted that you can get a S engine in a range Rover
And everyone and their mom who buys M performance models use the SAME B58/ ZF AT and interior
At least I can say the Supra is exclusive as you can not get any other bmw that is a 2 seater coupe with a MT

They say don't meet your heroes and the MK4 supra was one of those
Stock it was terrible, turbo lag, body roll , way overpriced that's why it never sold
Before the Fast & Furious movies they were dirt cheap
It only got popular due to the movie , the GTR and the NSX are both superior engineered and special cars

The MK5 is vastly superior than the MK4 in every way
I just laugh at the people who say it's not a real Toyota
Thank God it isn't or we'd have something similar to the abomination that was the Lexus RC Frankenstein chassis 4200lb autotragic F car they tried to say is an M4 competitor using decades old tech and falling on it's face

They could have done so much more IMO.

I like the look of the regular Supra. This AE edition is lackluster IMO

Lol. Does anyone even car about any BMW from 93? You didn’t buy a Turbo Supra for the quality of materials 🤣 How much is a 90’s Supra going for these days? Oh, more than a new M3/4. 🤷🏿‍♂️. I was disappointed in the new Supra as well. Just thought it would have been more epic in stock form.

The MK4 Supra weighed just under 3600 lbs.......in 1993. If Toyota made it today it would weigh in the range of 4600-5000 lbs. It was still a good car in it's time but the reality is that it was no more special than a 300ZX or FD RX7 and was a major sales flop. It wasn't until the F&F movies that people started paying attention to it and it's lasting fame is due to the engine only as the rest of the car wasn't really that special. One of the more overrated cars in history as the FD RX7 (may have been the best had it received a proper engine) or NSX are the best proper Japanese sports cars from that era.

I think a lot of you guys are forgetting some key factors. The MK4 is expensive due to the rising Yen and the Japanese bubble in the 90s. A lot of high end to mid level Japanese sports cars also took a sales dive during this period, not just the A80. Case in point, Toyota sold X3 the amount of Supras in Japan than they did in the US. SMH at the F&F non sense, they were still relatively affordable until just a few years ago.

Tell me more about the NASA membership. Does it include space-flight? Freeze-dried ice-cream?

Oh brother, shame on me and more! I was the 2nd owner, car had been garaged and maintained with all records since day 1, it had about 75k original miles when I sold it, very few mods, practically showroom condition asides from the exterior bits and bobs

I never forgot that but that doesn't change the fact that th MK4 was an absolute porker in its day and that it wasn't as good of a driver's car as an FD RX7 or markedly better than a 300ZX (both of those cars have much cleaner, more timeless designs).

She ain't no Miata, but also not 3,600lbs as you claim (3,450lbs USA and 1,570kg or 3461lbs JP) which was not much more than a Z32 (3,240lbs) this was the only press release I could find, assuming it's a base model NA 2 seater??? Wikipedia had more trim and weight listed for the 2+2 (3,414lbs NA and 3,582lbs turbo), regardless, I feel like we're splitting hair at this point, but if you want to see a real pig you should look up the 3000GT VR-4 (3,759lbs) For those of us that actually own FDs there is a reason why it weighs as much as it did. A lot of us won't mind an extra hundred or two pounds if that meant the interior pieces and door handles weren't so fragile.

Regarding visual appearances, that is completely subjective and you are entitled to your opinion. Recalling previous discussions, it seems you are not a fan of the A80's styling. Which is fine, different strokes for different folks. My prior comments were simple fact base, but I can also add my 2 cents on the matter. Do I think it's the best-looking car ever made, nope, but I think it looks relatively good for its time period. Pre-Covid I use to drive it a lot and people were always asking me about my car and most are shocked to learn that it's a 93. Many of them think it's a modern day car. IMO, that is what "timeless designs" is.

Saw on Toyota's website these come in loaded around $60k...not bad.

Compelling when even 5 yr old Boxster S' are still going for $60-75k.

Will have to test drive at some point. Will need a new ride within 2 yrs

Let some tell it, the MK4 Supra only reached the heights of popularity due to The Fast and Furious movie franchise.
