I'm a doc so seeing the handover staff can be oh thank goodness (if they are competent and hardworking) or oh f..k(if they are non competent or lazy,).
and yes I've let myself into nursing staffs food(with their permission of course) on a stressful day when they introduced me to 2 slices of bread with half a packet of crushed crisps in between and 2 slices of cheese microwaved and melted together I knew I could deal with anything as that was power food.

Not my mum but this was her uniform. They were called nursing sisters, although none of them were nuns. Maybe JJ 911SC remembers.
