You actually don't KNOW this. All I am saying is that given the situation with STRs tire, perhaps cranking fastest laps at the end of the race wasn't the best decision. We've seen it with Max before in Monza when he didn't care that he was ruining his race because he was given a penalty.

No one knows when a blow out will happen but it's unlikely it would happen with the available data to the team on Max's l/rear with the wear not being a concern.
There was NO reason for him to slow more as the car got lighter with less fuel load.
Backing into Sergio was not an option and it's clearly a Pirelli issue as some tyres won't be as good as others coming out of the injection mould.

Exactly. Horner himself said that there was absolutely no sign that a blowout would occur.
Of course there are always people on fora that 'know' something more than a team captain that has actually seen all the telemetry. Or at least they think they do because they've been watching F1 for so long that they actually start to believe that that gives them any credit....But all is of course always said in hindsight 20/20. Never before the blowout of course. So pretty much the traits of an armchair expert...

It's funny.

I work in drug development and have a consultancy. What occurred with STR is what we call a, "data signal". Now we have history with Pirelli having tire failures since they have taken over as sole manufacturer in Formula One.

Now, a thinking person would say, "Hmmmmmm...we have a data signal with STR...can someone take a look at any other situations in which similar failures at speed have taken place?"

Now from my perspective, the data signal in which that failure took place (STR) is similar to an adverse event with a drug. In my industry, I have a LEGAL OBLIGATION to report an adverse event within 24 hours of it occurring in a first-hand report. I have, thus far, launched at least a dozen drugs...many first in class, following this model and managed to stay in compliant with the law.

Sound management practices are applicable across multiple industries. It's a pity you don't know this. But I'm not surprised.

You're taking your self too seriously old man! This is only an F1 subforum. No one cares about your career, your former industry or your accomplishments. And don't underestimate the other forum members...they have careers too but they don't brag about it.
Please let's talk racing again.

Ah.

I'm giving you and your compatriot who ridiculed my opinion the rationale behind my thinking. It's called proof.

And while it is a sub-forum there should be some decorum on the forum. The thing is there really isn't. I participate in far more hard core F1 fora than this one and the difference is that even with differing opinions, there is respect. This place is littered with post about the greatness of VER. How bad HAM is as a driver. How Max will dust him up. How much Mercedes cheats. How bad Wolff is as a TP. How the FIA is complicit with Mercedes. How the FIA is complicit and allows HAM to cheat.

It is downright unpleasant and has caused this to be a VERY low-quality F1 forum.

It would have been proof if you posted this after the STR blowout and before the VER blowout, but everything you say is based on hindsight 20/20....

And even then: both Pirelli and RB aren't even clear about what really happened and whether both blowouts have the same cause.

I hope someday you'll understand how ridiculous you sound, pretending to know better than both Pirelli and RB even when they were there, have all the data and the ffing tyres themself and you......work at a pharmaceutical company?

And what you're saying has no relation to F1. You 'have a LEGAL OBLIGATION (wow....) to report an adverse event within 24 hours of it occurring in a first-hand report'. Should Aston martin have made a report within 24 hours? Or Pirelli?
And how would have helped that VER?
The only way this 2nd blowout could have been prevented is that the FIA stops every race after a tyre blowout has happened out of caution period. (and let Pirelli investigate a few days/weeks whatever for the cause)
But it doesnt take a genius to come up with that. It also doesn't take a genius to see that thats not a good option.

I watched the race on replay. I was traveling. It isn't the first time I've upset the Max fan boys. And I didn't say it could have been prevented. I simply said that I wouldn't have been banging fastest laps as Max was. Risk Mitigation. I'm sorry you don't understand this concept.

And for everyone that said this statement:

"The fastest lap can't be helped...it's a natural consequence of the car getting lighter because of the fuel being burned off."

This is one of the most ignorant statements I've ever seen. F1 drivers, in this era, drive to a specific Delta. They win the race at the slowest possible speed to preserve tire life, fuel, and parts. This concept was first seen with Jim Clark and later perfected by Jackie Stewart and brought to prominence by a driver named Prost.

Bring the car home.

Couple of things. Just because an analysis is taking place after an event, doesn't meet there cant be insight found in it. I would almost guarantee many people were concerned about tires after Stroll had his blow out. If you weren't thinking about tires before the blow out, and you were after it, then you were aware of a potential issue. I know I was sitting on my couch thinking "Who is next?" I think that's what you referred to as "not proof, but stupid" but OK.

If you look at the lap by lap times for some of the drivers in the top 10, Max is pushing far more than PER, HAM, NOR, LEC, GAS, and VET. Lap over lap he was increasing his gap to Perez and Ham behind him after the restart. Lap 35, Per -0.466 Ham -0.612. Lap 40, Per -4.053 Ham -4.824. Lap 45, Per -4.463 Ham -5.569.

Are any of us all knowing and knew that Max would have a blow out and lose the race? No, but its not inconceivable to believe that some people would have had some idea that tires should have been a concern. At that same time Max was building a huge gap with only 5 laps to go against his teammate (PER) and a car they had been able to dominate all weekend (HAM).
