The design isn't a from-the-ground-up Genesis; this was locked in before Hyundai decided to branch off and make Genesis a separate division. Like the G90 and G80, it was supposed to be a Hyundai originally; the next generation will look more daring and upscale.

This one isn't bad but I'd still pick its sibling the Stinger over it.

Faster involves more than straight line speed. What makes or breaks it IMO is handling, brakes and suspension. You have to carry that speed and put down the power.

Attractive car. The price will be a big factor in its success. They copied engines and looks from all the best companies and if they come in a good chunk cheaper the vast majority of people will not care about the brand and it'll sell well.

Frankensteined together chunks of Mazda/Infiniti/audi, not feeling the blatent copy-pastes in the design language at all but competition is good for driving down price if nothing else

You have nothing to worry about. Kia Stinger despite weighing 320 lbs. more than BMW 340i did brake 0-60 in 113 ft and averaged 0.85 g for lateral acceleration. For comparison numbers 340i: braking 60-0 mph - 115 ft and lateral acceleration - 0.84 g (avg).

You mean by having good steering feel, decent tire selection and a mechanical limited slip? We all need to change forums.

looks like an Infinity with an Aston Martin badge, if they wanna compete in this segment they should at least individualize their design rather than copy others.

Considering where Hyundai was 20 years ago and where they are now, I'd say they deserve a lot of respect.

This looks like the new Toyota Camry.

I prefer the looks of the Kia Stinger GT if I had to choose between the two.

The back end looks good. Not sure what happened to the front of it.

As for looks it's a no for me. Overall it mixes angular and round elements in an unsettling manner. As for specifics it commits the cardinal sin if you want to be a true 3 series competitor, it has a huge front overhang which shouts understeer. Whether or not it actually does understeer is another story but when it looks like it does it's a major turn off.

The interior look is ruined for me by the oval center of the steering wheel, it will make me feel like I'm at the helm of something like a Chrysler Pacifica

One thing to consider is that Albert Biermann, the guy who used to be VP of Engineering for BMW's M division is in charge of this project.

Hyundai's CEO gave him full authority and resources to make sure Biermann can make a car capable enough to be compared with the cars from German brands, so we'll see how it performs once car hits the stateside...

But will I buy one? I'm not sure.

Agreed.

Although the Genesis lineup has had its fair share of favorable reviews regarding its plus' over their intended competition ... the lack of handling and overall driver feedback has shown to be their biggest weakness. I'm pretty sure the G70 won't be any different.

Frankly I don't really see it being too strong of competition for BMW or Merc ... but more towards Infinity with Lexus close behind. (heck it even looks like a Infinity/Lexus hybrid with a bit of Mazda thrown in there).

Other than that ... it's a nice looking car. I've seen some Genesis' while driving around and do find them eye catching - not cheap looking, which is a big plus. Hyundai/Kia are making great strides in the US market regarding affordability and styling ... but even with that ... I won't be a buyer.

I am extremely curious about their resale values. Although Hyundai's seem to be fairly reliable - I just can't see them keeping up with the competition regarding back end value. Basically they seem to be a car you long term lease - not buy. Although I can imagine when Genesis rolls out a CPO program - it will be a very attractive option vs BMW's CPO's (due to BMW's even lower maintenance warranties) ... but still not convinced they're ultimately direct competition.
