Made a $40,000 transaction with them on a signature ideal cut, D color, flawless diamond and it couldn’t have been smoother. Send the GIA certified paperwork with it and it’s laser etched with serial number.

You’re free to take it to any jeweler to make yourself feel better, but Blue Nile was publicly traded before it was taken privat in the last few years and is as legit as it gets online or anywhere.

Tiffany couldn’t even match the specs I wanted in a diamond. Flawless and colorless were important to me.

Blue Nile or James Allen get a thumbs up.

Tiffany was roughly double the price of blue nile for *slightly inferior stones.. makes no sense to me, she aint wearing the box

Tiffany has nice stuff, but insane like you said, double prices of worth. The problem with Tiffany was that they didn’t even carry a stone that was D color and flawless. They best they had was F color and VVS2. Then the sales guy tried to give me the “you can’t tell” and “she’ll never know” spiel to which I told him, she wouldn’t know if it’s a fake diamond either. That misses the point.

Diamonds are a ripoff, but if you’re going to get a real one, get a good one which is actually rare. That’s kind of the point of a diamond...rarity.

If you just want the biggest shiniest piece of crap you can find for a cheap price, just get a cubic zirconia. There are no “deals” in diamonds. A 2 carat flawed piece of shit is cheaper than a 1 carat flawless because it’s a shitty diamond.

I got my 2nd wife her engagement ring from Blue Nile. I wanted to build it myself and there were plenty of options to make a fairly unique ring. I felt like I got a good value for being able to essentially design a ring vs buy something ready made in a store. She loves the ring and that’s all I care about. She calls it her “dinner plate”. I haven’t seen another one just like it so far either.

You’re correct for the girdle.

Table: The width of the diamond's table expressed as a percentage of its average diameter. A component of the overall cut grade, this measurement is critical to a diamond's light performance.

Ideal table is 54-60% depending on the size of the diamond.

Which ever you choose, you're good. As long as you're in the vvs or vs you have good clarity. The cost increase from H to F could be significant. H with vvs is an impressive stone. If you look at H vs F side by side, you can see the difference. However, if you look at the H on it's own, it's a nice clear color.

Good luck

I didn't buy my wife's engagement ring at Blue Nile but I got her a set of diamond solitaire earrings from BN and they are damn pretty. She was incredibly happy with them.
My old college roommate bought all his wife's diamonds from BN (engagement ring, wedding band, etc) and never complained about them. That's why I went there for the earrings.

For a big stone, I'd still prefer to do it the old fashioned way, at a jeweler.

Million times this.

They have NO FUCKING CLUE other than if it looks yellow and what size it is.

NO FUCKING CLUE. Clarity, cut ... NO FUCKING IDEA.

Just go big and not yellow and you're done, will save you a fortune.

Actually, just try to make that transaction just once. That’s how you save money. Getting a divorce, then buying another ring for a new partner is way more expensive. Applying your approach certainly helps but is a drop in the bucket in comparison lol.

With this logic, get her a cubic zirconia. If you're dating a chick that does this, that's what she deserves anyway. haha

Big rings are just gaudy and passé.

My wife asked for 1c even tho we could have gone way bigger. I knew I was marrying the right woman at that point.

For people who know diamonds, any time you see a "big" diamond, you know it's almost definitely trash.

My ex-wifes Blue Nile engagement ring is currently sitting in my gun safe. Had it locally appraised years ago for ~$8500, much more than what I paid for it. Tried selling it to a diamond broker, he would only give me $800, totally worthless now..

No joke 95% of the time. The clarity is shit and the color is average. My wife wanted 1 carat but with excellent specs. I went with an ideal cut 1.34 carat, VVS2 and F color. Random women grab her hand sometimes and say holy shit. With over 100 pave diamonds surrounding this diamond, it's sparkle city.

A nice diamond with great specs is so much better than the "bigger you can't tell it's crap" diamond. The whole point of a diamond is to get something beautiful and rare. If I'm trying to fool people I don't know, I can get a cubic zirconia.

What matters is that YOU know you have something high quality. It's kind of like a nice pair of shoes or a nice watch. There are a lot of copies and decent looking fakes, but you know it's real and that's all that matters.

I did and they are great.
There's no such thing as "special" diamond. Tiffany, Jared or what have you, they are coming from same diamond vault. You just need to search for the "right" spec for you with "right" certification. Blue nile has substantially lower mark up then other branded diamond and is the one of the safest place to buy one. But when it comes to the setting, brand might have better flare. For me, I only go for classic look so anyone has my style.

One more thing OP... if you are spending a lot, make sure it is insured from the time you take possession / ownership transfers to you.

You guys are looking through a man's eyes, a logical man's eyes. Think like a woman for a second, most have nfi, get the largest weight your budget allows with good colour imho.
