Best regards, south

At least Willisch is still saying high rpm....so hopefully it is a low boost turbo system that addresses torque in the low rpm band and for cruising fuel economy.

If is like my 335i (i.e. wheezing up top / turbo lag), I will be shopping for a Ferrari

I wouldn't say "more fun", maybe no lag is a better word for it. I used to have a Camaro Z28 with power the same as a stock 335 and can tell you that car wasn't half as fun to drive as a 335, I think I get your point though. I guess I just like the turbo performance potential.

I trust in BMW. They'll make the most NA-feeling FI engine 'ever'. They're kinda close already with the 335i.

Beyond that the M3 will still look good next to an ///M X6 in the garage.

The fact that they are focusing production on X5/X6 instead of Z4s says enough.

BMW M is now following the path of AMG. Yes they will sell more cars, no they won't be more fun.

E92 CSL is very important, passing shouldn't even be an option.

Are you saying you're unhappy with your E92?

depends on your definition of "true M car". Many will argue that the brand has been dilluted each generation since the e30.

Not my opinion, just sayin.

Aside from that though, I think that there would definately be a market for a bare bones limited production e92 CSL. Even more so because the basic M3 is so heavy.
Im pretty sure that was the M3 GTR, not the CSL. I could be wrong here.

We'll just have to wait in see...........

IMHO the "M" cars have gone off track a little w/the E60/E92 "M"s..... But a whole new genre is up and coming so again we will have to wait and see................

hm. You may be right. To be honest, I'm not 100% sure what it was anymore anyways. I just know one of the cars they have come out with in the last few years or so was for that purpose.

The fact that they are going forced induction means they have already screwed up. Lipstick on a pig is what BMW ///M is going to do for a FI to make it "responsive" and lag free - this is the inherent nature of FI engines.

Precisely! To trade off true cars with fast baby carriers is inherently wrong. ///M has lost their way.

No the 335xi is a great series car. But I hold ///M cars to a different standard. Anyone who has ever throttle steered will know what I am talking about.

Lets hope they revolutionize turbocharging then.

Good point. But perhaps a Bi-Turbo setup could make its way into the M division. From what I understand this type of FI setup offers no lag. . .

Is it the end of Porsche's GT division??

comeon guys... lets look at it another way...

1) maybe BMW M FI might not be so bad... let's wait and see. from the N54, which has virtually no lag, a FI M engine might surprize you. new technologies come out everyday, perhaps FI has an impression of being laggy and not sporty and non-M, but with new development, thing will change!

2) perhaps a higher sales volume will give M GmbH more R&D resources for a better future car?

comeon guys, don't be so pessimistic and judgmental... let have faith in our favorite car company enjoy your M now and let's just wait and see what happens. if i remember correctly when M decided to put a V8 in the E9X, many were skeptical. But look at where we are today -- the E9X M3 is still one of the best sports cars money can buy (perhaps even THE best practical everyday sports car)

I don't think people have fully grasped the choices that BMW ///M has made.....
  • They chose to use development resources on stupid fast trucks instead of pure bred performance cars - BIG MISTAKE
  • The only way they could have kept naturally aspirated engines is to lighten the cars..... They are going the AMD / Audi route....heavy cars (4000 lbs) with lots of power... This sucks! Look at Ferrari's future, the focus is on lighter cars and flat power.
  • How on earth can we have confidence in a company that is now choosing to tune up a 5000 lb truck instead of delivering CSL versions of real M cars?
  • All the crap they have been spooning us about how BMW loves revs is going to be repackaged into efficient performance marketing campaign
People have called me a BMW fanboi.....but this is monumentally bad and I am not overreacting.

Turbocharged cars are like enjoying fresh clear air through a gas mask.

Where is Mr. Gerhard Richter? He would have NEVER allowed this. This is brand dilution at its worse.
