I kinda laugh when I see it out there. But don't spend the time nor energy to create a post and vent about it cause there's more important shit to talk about

I've seen a couple while cruising with my wife, and pointed them out. She was like "why would anyone do that?" The question remains and is unanswerable.

It’s to impress the less than average car enthusiast that has some automotive interest without paying too much to details such as the following...”wow! I’ve read about those M3’s and there’s one now!! That guy is lucky!! I’m jealous...” In the mean time it’s just a 2013 328i xdrive with a M badge, carbon trunk spoiler, and plasti-dipped 17 inch wheels. Fucking awesome.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

Ego stroking. It's the same kind of people that buy those Japanese motorcycles that look and sound like a Harley. Those bikes are "Wish I had the money for a Harley" bikes. Squint just right in a certain light and it looks just like a real Harley for half the price. Same thing here.

It’s very strange, very strange indeed. It’s likely a different experience for everyone abusing M badges. I have one chronic “fake M badge user” a few blocks away, driving erratic when they pull away from their driveway, in an older 3 series. My opinion on some is that they are young kids who’s parents bought them an older bmw 3 series, as their first car, and due psycho social issues, “Teen Status”, slap on an M badge to give the appearance they drive an exotic European sports car...Actually not a bad move for a freshman looking to improve their image, but yea its M Fraud, punishable by Internet Defamation so keep posting fakes!

I think to myself "why??"
I also purposely park next to one if there is a spot available haha. But I read this in another thread a couple years back, "those who don't know what the badge means, don't care; and those who do, think you're a moron. it's a lose-lose situation for you." |

I saw my first Audi RS6 sedan in Chicago suburbs today. Was the previous gen with a V6T badge on the side. Was very impressed how subtle it looked with a stock A6 body but silver mirror caps. Couldn't believe my eyes since the S6 and RS6 Avant had TT V8s. I felt like I saw a unicorn.

One person's annoyance is another person's opportunity! Lord knows that I made plenty of car/mortgage payments in the past selling knock-off Type-R badges to Honda drivers.....

I have already seen an Audi A4 with a very large M sticker going across the bottom of the windshield.
Morons and what's the point of posing. It's like wearing fake muscles

Its kind of like loading up a bar with fakes weights and acting like you just benched 500 pounds.
In a nut shell everyone who knows their shit knows you are a poser when you pull crap like this. Most embarrassing shit i ever saw was in my area a few months ago. Dude has halos on a Scion and M badges on trunk and both sides. He did keep the Scion emblem on though. |

Many of the metric cruisers are much better bikes than a Harley. HD is trying to modernize its lineup, but most buyers still want an air-cooled 45 degree V-twin that's been around for a hundred years. The design places many limits on performance, and most of Harley's innovations have been work-around for the inherent inferiority of a 45 degree v-twin. They would be better off starting from the ground up... but people still want the traditional HD sound. Look at the V-Rod. It had a water-cooled 60 degree twin that was jointly developed with Porsche and based on a superbike development project. It is a much better motor than the old Harley standard, but nobody bought it, so they stopped making it. Same with the XR1200, which was a flat track style bike. They built a whole US Superbike racing class around it, with only a few parts required to make it race legal. Again, it died from lack of interest. |

The V-Rod didn't sell because it was too niche and too expensive. |

What's funny is that it's a lose-lose situation.
(a) People who know about cars will think you're a poser (b) People who don't know cars will think it's just another BMW. People who do this aren't fooling anybody besides themselves. Work hard, manage your finances wisely, then you can but a full on M division product. Until then you look like a try hard loser.

It's sad because these cars took the blood sweat and tears of thousands of people to engineer and build in Germany. They were once beautiful and shiny at a dealership, possibly purchased by somebody who worked really hard to afford it. I just moved to SoCal and these cars are like fleas. 3+ yr old beaten up Bimmers, Mercs, Lexuses, and Infinitis everywhere.

Lol since those cars are so affordable to begin with they attract some funny characters. I'd say Challenger dudes fit the stereotype pretty well, regardless of race.
