On average, 3.4% of new vehicles are resold within the first year of ownership.

#7 BMW X3 9% of the X3 were resold within 12 months.

#6 BMW X1 10.4% of the X1 were resold within 12 months.

#2 BMW 3 Series 11.8% of the 3 series were resold within 12 months.

The firm excluded vehicles with less than 1,000 miles on the odometer from the study. This was done to keep the study from being skewed by "car punching", which is when automakers offer incentives to dealers to buy new cars to use as loaners and then resell them when they're still under a year old.

Eight out of ten on the list are German and British luxury cars. The other two are Nissans. The list tops off with the Mercedes-Benz C-Class: 12.4% are resold used within the first year. This is 3.7 times more than the average for all vehicles.
I've seen plenty of BMW loaners with over 5k miles on them.

I suspect loaners are the majority of these sales.
Loaners are supposed to be pulled by 4,500 miles and sold before 5k.

Didn't know that. I've had loaners which were overdue for their first oil service.

100% agree.

But you never know the G20 might get a 320 at some point too. It'll be a much better one than the F30.

If loaners are part of the statistic, the C-Class data needs to be taken with a pinch of salt, because of the prevalence of C-Class vehicles as M-B loaners.

Also agree with previous comments of buyers' remorse (buyer didn't get what he/she expected) and buyers who can't afford luxury vehicle payments.

Please don't even throw the idea of that out there. The last thing I wanna see is another 3 series under 40k base... let's not devalue these cars, hopefully BMW learned from their mistake. If you can't afford it then go with a diff brand, it's not meant for everyone anyways and that's the beauty of it.

With a FWD 2-series GC on the way I'm sure that will take the entry level slot in the lineup.

The Versa is a 100% trash vehicle so no surprise there but it's not hard to understand that too many consumers purchase C-class and 3 series cars that can't really afford them. There's some mystique with luxury brands so consumers that think they are the holy grail sometimes get remorse after months of driving to work and back in a vehicle that they realize that it's still just a car that doesn't do a lot different than the Honda they used to drive in their commute.

Oh how some users see BMW.

In Europe the 320i is not the base F30 model, we have the 3-cylinder 318i model. Two diesels, 316d & 318d below the top selling F30 model, the 320d.
