Man that Tesla is one quick toaster!

But at the same time love the footage of both the Caddy and M5 drifting. But not the Tesla. Because it can't.

Even if they do give it track mode to drift, I think that Yoke would cause some injuries in trying to do so!

Tesla's can do drifting, Model 3 P has a drifting mode and does pretty good drifts. There are rumors that Model S Plaid will be getting drifting mode as well. In general, electric cars are capable of drifts better than any gas car if combine with 4 electric motors (like Rivian) and good software. In the future, sport electric cars with 4 independently controlled motors will do nasty stuff, mark my word.

1) Show me a current, on sale Tesla that drifts
and
2) 3 P? Sounds like what most people go to the bathroom for.

I know electric cars can do all of this stuff, except for filling tanks in 3 minutes. But they don't do anything fun, because they are made to be appliances.

Not really sure why you think Tesla's can't drift, here is fat Model S doing some drifting. And yes, battery will discharge quicker but give it some time, the technology will get better. Early gas cars were not exactly drift queens...

My point is that in order to do this, you have to pull a wheel speed sensor. Plenty of discussion on this in the Tesla forums. The Stability control system is not defeatable by a button or setting. You have to disconnect hardware, and that informs Tesla by their connected module. Not what you want.

What are you talking about...? In video below guy just picked up cheapest Model 3 and did some basic drifts. Model 3 Performance can change power distribution basically disabling AWD and can do some great drifts:

Oh, I stand corrected. did not know they now have an official drift mode. Good. On the S you had to pull sensors.

Randy is an incredible driver but he screws up a lot of fast times as he doesn't understand that the paddles allow you to change gears yourself. He did the same thing with M2CS as well. Even complained it didn't select the right gear. Hello. See those thing either side of the wheel? Well they let you change gears faster than using a clutch pedal and let you have more car control. Ok. He's old. Still love him though.

He probably didn't select the right modes for M5CS as well as not understanding what paddles are for.

Having said all that, yes, he's a Porsche guy and yes, Porsches are the only car where the computer does a better job at selecting gears than a human. For me, that's not a good thing but I'm sure some folk like it that way.

As for the Plaid. That thing is nuts. Like strapping a missile to the ass of a guy with no interest or skill in driving that went out to buy some luxury whitegood. It's really not going to end well for these people.

This Adam Sandler tribute guy makes good videos though. I'd still take the M5CS all day every day over those other two things. I think it will go down as the pinnacle of M5ness. A category BMW invented and perfected. The swan song to a category defining icon.

Re: Randy Pobst.

Dude races cars for a living. He almost certainly knows how to use paddles. I imagine it is intentional to not use them, just letting the gearbox sort itself out. By doing that in every single car he tests he would be able to get a more consistent result than him relying on himself to trigger the shift from one car to the next. With the car doing the timing of the shift it's like-for-like test result without any of his intervention except steering, throttle, and brake input.

I do think it is hilarious that some absolute nobody from down under is legit saying they think a race car driver doesn't get how an automated gearbox works and that he can change the gears himself.

Thanks for the insight. Maybe he should shift according to suggested gear display for manual then? Same concept really as it will also increase lap times by putting you in the wrong gear for best performance. Probably save fuel though.

Randy tortures cars for a living. Trust me he tried probably everything in the book to get that m five to go around the track and the Cadillac smoked it. And the Tesla smoked both of them.

When I think of a Tesla Smoking it's either the brakes struggling or the smoke stacks from the coal burning powerplants helping supply the outrageous Amp output the Tesla Superchargers require.

How about smoke from wildfires caused by climate change?

No thats california forestry services being told NOT to clear the underbrush as they have done for a couple centuries, things like that cause wildfires , not 'climate change'...
