for frequent cleaning i use Gtechniq tri-clean. then I will apply L1 Leatherguard every few months. The triclean works great to remove the "shine" and give back the matte look.

Leatherique is a superb product but its for unsealed leathers. Modern car leather is painted and sealed and leatherque isn't doing much. You're better off using any modern leather cleaner as its much quicker and cleaner.

On my last 3 new BMW's I have used DODO Supernatural Leather Cleaner.

Spray a bit onto a damp microfibre, wipe over the steering wheel, and then dry with microfibre straight after.

I do this every fortnight, and have yet to lose that Matte newness

I go German: Colourlock, using their brush and mild cleaner

EDIT: the key is the sealant after cleaning

I use Gtechnic tri-clean. It leaves a matte finish.

This is not necessarily the "maintenance" route, but I went through the annoyance of keeping my m sport steering wheel top notch on my '16 535 f10. I ended up wrapping that steering wheel with a custom cover from East Detailing. Did the same to my f06 640 and opted for the leather and perforated sides with white sewing thread. Its been on for over 2 years and still looks good as new. Check them out if your interested and spare the headaches of constant shampoo, conditioning, etc..
